Animal rights group mad about killing farm raised octopus with cold water

I do t k ow much about this and if it’s a slow death they could probably do better but I’d say killing farm raised ones is better than taking them from the wild. This is what I do t get. So they are ok with people traveling around, polluting the ocean, and killing all sorts of other creatures over this?

Growing up on a farm, you don't really don't have "pet" steer or chickens, etc. They are food.

Every time I work on farm, I see those animals as food feeding people, keeping kids healthy and strong.

When I've had to dispatch chickens, steer, and other animals, I was taught how to properly do it. Never once did I feel bad, I felt good because it was good, healthy food. A lot of times, I couldn't wait to butcher up a fresh chicken and make a great meal out of it. Somehow it always tasted better.

I've eaten plenty of octopus. I prefer it fried with some low sodium soy sauce.

Asians do have a thing about "fresh food" and eating some things that just don't look good to me...
There are ways to properly dispatch all creatures, and it should be done humanly.
I watched a Bovine have its throat cut by a Rabbi using this long Knife and a sawing motion...that I found disturbing, we always put a bullet in their head first, then cut & bled them out...but this is how it's been done for thousands of years.

Some Asians eat octopus while they are still alive, is that fresh enough?

That's my view. I don't mind people eating them. I eat calamari. The world is brutal, that's just how it is.

But kill it quick. The animal is dying for you to live. Make it a quick death out of respect.

It’s dangerous and yes the can suction cup to your throat and choke you out. I believe it’s illegal but that could be just rumors

A lot of the food taboos, preferences, and religious requirements are throwbacks to pre-refrigeration days.

Some food just doesn't keep without refrigeration. Shellfish are a prime example.

A lot of the Kosher or Halal requirements that seem silly today would have been major evolutionary advantages for a culture in the past.

Would *you* want to eat octopus that had sat around a day after dying in a world without refrigeration ?

Seeing it killed in front of you, or seeing them live in a tank at the restaurant was a guarantee that they weren't spoiled.

A curious related notion is that spicy food is strongly correlated with hotter climates. The spice covers an off flavor.

Without refrigeration your meat will develop an off flavor a lot faster in Mexico or Thailand than it will in Norway or England.
