The funny thing is, in 35 years of tending bar I have experienced just 1 shooting. A very drunk, obnoxious off duty NYC detective shot the jukebox because he didn't like the country music being played. And that got covered up.

Probably a custom left over from the Great Depression. I remember a local gun shop doing that here in the early 1960's. When you are trying to get by on $5 a week, $1.50 for a box of ammunition is one hell of a luxury.

8 boxes of Winchester Silvertips came with the rifle. To me that doesn't sound like a lot, but I can remember my grandfather buying one box of .300 Savage rounds for his Model 1899., maybe every 8 or 10 years. And he filled his tag every year.
