Apparently ~60 are in Israel right now.
They are being positioned further back because they were are risk being deployed closer and multiple took damage.
I'm absolutely not ruling out a ground/amphibious/air invasion of some sort, somewhere in Iran. Either Qeshim Island, Kharg Island or some other region of Iran (Southern Iran desert, pickaxe mountain etc). Personally I think it's a terrible idea but that doesn't mean people aren't considering it as a real option.

I think its on the table, but I think the commanders understand the situation better than the administration. you want to go in to win , not play fucking games , and that requires a lot of planning, a lot of resources , a shit ton of men , prepositioning ect.
they are going to want to establish an air base as soon as possible so the turn around time on strikes is minimal , right now they are flying from Jordan and Isreal(?) Diego Garcia, NATO bases, and carriers but the turn around time and matinence is to long for ground support , when seconds count, help is just minutes away. Delays can cost lives
Qeshm island has an airport , its a great defensive postion to hold , but the airfield will be under constant attack from drones and missiles and artillery . the main objective would be the airfield , but if its unusable or to costly to hold , the objective is not worth taking .
If they go in half assed , they could have a serious problem, the drone threat has to be nuetralized to move forward , in my opinion .
I would think a better option is to go in as far south and close to pakistan as possible and you might be able to get the carriers closer to the fighting where they can shine . drones are still going to be an issue . My guess is the best anti drone system is a drone. high speed fighter drones able to intercept drones forward of the battle area . I dont know what the possibilities are at this point but that seems the way to go rather than shooting at them when they are right on top of you You could put up an umbrella over the battle area . might not stop missles so well but it can keep drone strikes to a minimum
I'm certain plans are being developed for a ground attack of some sort. Doesn't mean it will happen but you know there are all kinds of plans. The problem is Iran is a big country, with lots of places to hide and the mullahs have had 45 years to think about an invasion from the great Satan. If we go in we will want something quick and surgical to eliminate the regime. I think the IRGC knows this and is planning on it.
I think things are about to re-escalate in a big way.

It looks that way but there is still a probability it's posturing in an expensive US strategy.
Iran has retained a substantial capacity to inflict local regional damage but the certainty of a devastating counter-response (mostly from the United States and Israel) keeps Iranian "leadership" from "pulling the escalation trigger" unless the IRGC perceives that a US strike is already unavoidable.
They conciously avoid crossing a line which would start suicidal ending that ends the current leadership's grip on power and they are betting their best defense is still a long drawn out costly affair.
Tehran has integrated more aggressive language into its propaganda, which may signal a transition from "strategic patience to wait for help from US politics " to "active and unpredictable deterrence" when faced with an existential threat.

Meh, throughout our history, American citizens have had to sometimes sacrifice something or another to support the troops and the war effort as a whole. (WWII comes to mind) If I have to pay more for fuel for the time being, to keep the "Death to America Fanatical Religious Cult" from getting/having nukes, I'm fine with that... YMMV
