Bodycam shows Connecticut officer repeatedly ordering bat-wielding suspect to stop before fatal shooting - Why we need more than 10 round mags !

VietnamEraVet · Jul 23, 2026

Mag capacity is NOT an issue down here in the Carolinas (aka Free America), or simply ‘merica as some locals call it.

IIRC, SCOTUS has already granted Cert to a couple of 2A cases for the next term,- one of which covers mag capacity restrictions. Don’t remember the case name right this second…

Zerex · Jul 25, 2026

Ten rounds is just right for shooting off the bench with an AR.

tirwin1 · Jul 25, 2026

The guy with the bat had to be one pissed off individual to keep swinging the bat both before and after the cop shot him.

Yes, that eleventh round can be very scary to some, you should definitely stay in your lane.
I would prefer to make my own decisions on this subject and many more as a matter of fact, but the commie fucks and Karens of the new age seem to know better for me than I do, so My freedoms are curbed in the name of infringement!

In Vietnam, stats say it took 50,000 M16 rounds to mask one kill.

Many experts believe that in combat only 60% ever shoot their weapons.

AI:
Historical research shows that in many wars, only about 15–25% of soldiers actually fired their weapons at an enemy, even when directly engaged American Heritage+1. This phenomenon, often called the “ratio of fire,” was first documented by U.S. Army historian S.L.A. Marshall after World War II, when he interviewed thousands of infantrymen in Europe American Heritage.

You need 30 round mags??
Refer to the above stats.

My father in WW2, at the end handed in the same ammo he was given even though his job was to mine german roads at night.

S.L.A. Marshal was proven to be the biggest liar in documenting the military. Probably a commie dick head at heart. But of course you believe all the shit as you wander down that unlit street.

Big reason why CT and others transitioned from 38 revolvers to 9mm semiautomatic. Of course pistol marksmanship was ignored (and still is). Shot placement and proficiency needs to get a comeback tour.

LEOs get no time or resources to shoot regularly to proficiency. Most I have had as clients have never had DAO systems explained to them nor routine maintenance nor servicing/ rotating magazines.

Especially if you're a poor shooter that rest his Rifle on the Magazine.
Only time we "shoot off the Bench" is zeroing our optics or developing a load...'course the way some people shoot, ten isn't near enough.

spat · Jul 26, 2026

If I need to investigate something that goes bump in the night I keep a PS90 by the bed.

I keep a spare mag with it.

Just saying.

I do not plan on running out of ammo, and I do not plan on being stingy with it either if the SHTF.

There have been many videos which helped sway me toward 10mm over 9mm.
But the #1 video is an old one on ASP. A 65 year old guy gets shot FOURTEEN times by cops using 9mm.
It took 4 cops to get him in handcuffs. He died an hour later at the hospital.
Ill give anyone here $100 if they can find a verified video of someone surviving 14 rounds of 10mm, and need to be fought by cops to be cuffed. Good luck, you aren't going to find it.
The "aLl PiStOl CaLiBeRs ArE tHe SaMe" people have never done their research, they just listen to 9mm fanboys too much. There is a reason we dont hunt deer with a 2 inch 380acp or 9mm.
9mm is great because the guns are light and concealable, they hold a lot of rounds, the rounds are cheap, but they suck at stopping humans reliably....period. Dozens and Dozens of videos with guys getting hit 4,5,6,10,14 times with 9mm and surviving dont lie.
Of course shot placement is king, but hundreds of "evidence based defensive training" videos show that even good shooters almost never put 3 rounds high center mass on a moving bad guy.
Three 180 grain rounds from a 10mm do not need that accuracy. One in the gut, one in the shoulder, and one in the pelvis will stop a bad guy.
Ive shot 2 deer now with Hornady 180 grain XTP from my glock 20. They make sn impressive wound. And these are relatively weak 10mm rounds.

Why did I get into this rant?
Oh yeah, if it comes time to stop a bat swinging dude, I dont want to shoot him 14 times!! I am convinced 2-3 rounds MAX of the 180 grain Buffalo Boar XTP I carry will stop any psycho meth head. They are so much MORE than the Hornady Custom...just more.

That's primarily because for every guy shot 14 times by a 10mm there's probably 1000 guys shot 14 times by a 9mm.

The odds it was caught on video are just higher for the 9mm.

You're not going to find a video of someone getting hit 14 times and surviving from .32NAA either, but it's not because of it's incredible stopping power.

Now, certainly 10mm is better than 9, nobody serious would argue with that. But it's not *that* much better

The variety of 12G shot out there (and some cool defense loads with a variety even within them) to center of mass. Anyone volunteer to a center of mass shot? Holes= loss of volume. Well placed shot can mean instant effect. Each has a place.

fresch · Jul 27, 2026

357 or better.

Brawny71 · Jul 27, 2026

The caliber to comfort, that you are proficient with, practiced with, and maintained no less then every 30 days. Add to that the bullet you use (defense rounds) and you are in a good place.

I’ve had clients (some professionals) whose large caliber was welded to their holster, mags that would no longer feed more then two rounds (because they were ALWAYS READY with all mags packed always), and practiced by watching tv and talking about their guns. I have others with 22 Mag, who carry/practice/and maintain often and understand carry/defense bullet vs range. The latter is better prepared to their level.

Zerex · Jul 27, 2026

SLA Marshall was studied by the US ARMY War college and other think tanks for years.

Was he correct? The truth is stranger than fiction.

His main critics were offended that SLA basically called them out obliquely, as non shooting cowards.

YOU, obviously need 30 rounders for sure.

Brawny71 · Jul 27, 2026

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I need the State to tell me what I need when. But more rounds can lead to spray and pray mentality.

When I started hunting my dad made me use a single shot 12G (Shotgun only there) with one additional slug round in my pocket. I started shooting with a single shot. It hones responsible shot decisions, placement, and the thought of little follow on so make them all right.

Many clients have bought and added options to great firearms and spent lots of money. Some of them come back confused why their awesome firearm is suddenly having issues when they go out with friends to show it off. Few of those maintain them regularly, shoot them often, practice how they are preparing to shoot for. I’m not a gunsmith genius; trust me.

FP1201 · Jul 27, 2026

The crux of the issue is not as much how many rounds your Magazine can support but rather the State's decision to determine that for you; I neither need nor want the ideologies of some NYC Legislator or Bureaucrat deciding that "Ten" is more than enough with eleven being a violent felony.

Studied and found to be full of shit! Obviously you are either a cherry picker or wish to be blithely ignorant, and probably never carried a magazine on top of all that. I didn't have thirty round magazines, only twenties, lots of twenties. All loaded with eighteen rounds.

Technically it is still the actual law in NY. Its just been declared un-enforceable by the courts.

Robin · Jul 27, 2026

If it is unenforceable for seven it should be unenforceable for twenty, thirty, etc.. Typical NY courts.

Why we need more than 10 round mags !

Thread starteralistair
Start dateThursday at 1:14 PM

I need more than 10 round mags because

1) The Second Amendment states "shall not be infringed "

2) The last time I thwarted an attempted home invasion it took law enforcement a painfully long time to show up. Although the team of four home invaders fled and were not caught by the responding Troopers and Sheriff Deputies, the invaders were still bold enough to come back the same night a few hours later to shout promises of death threats from the street. So, yeah. I need more than 10 rounds in a mag, more than 1mag, a NY reload, and a life of dedicated training.

A 12ga slug is large enough to include a practical explosive shaped charge.

Just saying.

Anyone doubt the stopping power of 1/2oz of RDX driving a copper liner at mach Jesus ?

You get penetration *and* expansion.

The NYTimes was SLA Marsahalls chief critic.

You cannot tell me that many soldiers do not want to kill and do not shoot. SLA was correct in those findings.

30 rounders are heavy, clumsy , even in an AK.

I leave it with that.

Remember, stay in your lane.
