"An investigation found that the wound was self-inflicted, and officers obtained a search warrant for Ruffino’s home and car on Sunset Street." - "He claimed a shooting happened near Hertel Avenue and Military Road."
Let's just say if someone were to accidentally shoot themselves and get themselves to the hospital. That's a justification for a search warrant? I never knew that. Is that normal procedure?
Maybe there's more to the story. Sketchy guy, sketchy story, sketchy situation. IDK.

I always wondered the same. Although convicted felons cannot buy ammo or possess it in NYS legally.
No charge for the SBR ?!? Only calling it an "assault weapon" ?!? Not a chance that barrel is 16" or longer, and that's a stock, not a brace. Maybe they figured he already got fucked enough and gave him a break on the big charges.

Sounds like he didn't claim it was an accident and he falsely reported it as a crime.
So the search warrant could have been based off that.
It still seems pretty sketchy though, unless the warrant was based on investigating the crime of falsely reporting the incident.
If he had half a brain he would have just said "accident, and not another word without my lawyer".

EMS, Doctors, Nurses are ALL going to ask what happened, and they write down everything which later can be entered as evidence in Court.
Hospitals/Medical Professionals are mandated reporters, so they are going to call the State Police, and of course every other Agency is going to want in on the action...You have the Right NOT to say or tell them anything.
IF one were the subject of an accidental self inflicted gunshot wound, KNOWING it's something you're going to get jammed up over, then why cut your own Bag?
Pain and duress are going to short circuit a normal ability to STFU, but do give it your best effort, even when the Detectives really start pressing and threatening (they will) and there'll be no sympathy from them, they're going back to the Station to laugh at your dumb-ass while evidence tagging ALL the guns and ammunition they can find in your House, Car, and Person.
I am not pro-criminal or Crime, but not everyone that gets fucked over deserves it.

I've wondered that too. In the case of a felon I guess taking the ammo would make sense, but how is the bag and holster illegal?
If the cops red flag someone they not only take all the guns but ammo too (that could be a BIG task) but why take all the reloading components and presses and leave the gas ca in the garage next to the axe and chainsaw? IDK, just ramblin on

He might have shattered a bone, or been bleeding like a stuck pig, and did not have the opportunity or ability to move the guns and ammo to someplace else.

Both pistols look like 380's. I'll bet he was carrying one in his pocket with out a holster and snagged the trigger pulling it out (even though the pull on a Ruger LCP is like 8#!).

To me, the handgun on the left side of the picture looks like a Ruger LCP Max (380), and an unfired round next to it.
The one on the right looks a bit larger (although I can’t identify the make?). But the round next to it looks to me to be a fired shell casing. Maybe they found that in the car where they say he shot himself?

I agree empty round from the one on the right. The one on the left I’m certain is an LCPII. I have one and it’s this gun and grip matches. The other gun appears to be some older model Ruger 9mm. The round medallion on the grip says that to me mom no Ruger expert so just a guess there.
The one on the right looks like a Ruger LC9. If so, it's a later gen version since it has the "trigger safety" as well as the normal mechanical safety.
I have a 1st gen LC9. Good pocket pistol, but the trigger pull is best accomplished with a truck. It's so heavy my wife can't shoot it without her hands shaking from the pressure.
