Now California will regulate what tires you can buy for your vehicles. 70% of them sold today will be banned by 2033

Of courses it’s for the environment and will save us all. Freaking state is broke but they are testing tires in a lab for rolling resistance? What a joke.

California regulators approve new rules limiting what replacement tires you can buy for your car

California regulators on Monday approved new rules that will restrict what tires you can buy when it's time to replace them on your car. In a unanimous vote, the California Energy Commission voted to adopt new rules that will phase out the sale of replacement tires that don't meet certain energy...

There are some exclusions to the new rules, according to the CEC:

  • Competition tires designed for motorsports
  • Winter-type snow tires
  • All-season winter performance tires
  • Used and retreaded tires
  • Deep tread tires
  • Tires designed for ATVs and other off-road vehicles
  • Large off-road tires for use up to 99 mph
  • Motorcycle tires
  • Temporary-use spare tires
  • Small tires with ≤13-inch nominal rim diameter
  • Limited production tires (<15,000 per year)
  • Tires sold for use on an emergency vehicle
  • High load index tires (122 or greater)
  • Tires not capable of sustaining speeds over 50 mph"

Pretty much exempts most tires.

That state is the epitome of retard

Fuk California and fuk them

On a side thought
California mandated shitty moronic gas can regulations and they can fuck themselves
I buy my cans in Canada
They also mandate diesel emissions and they can fuck themselves

I might mention
DIL is from the LA area and she prefers fulton and upstate ny

I also think California can go fuck itself

Rant over for now

I mean everything expect your everyday average daily drivers. That’s what will be most impacted.

"Officials say the rules will make replacement tires at least as energy-efficient, on average, as the tires originally installed on new cars and trucks."

The tires we've had on new cars are generally garbage and last 20-25K miles. When the tires need replacement, the new tires (that I chose, not the gov) generally last twice that long, and have better traction in wet and snowy weather. The fuel mileage loss, if there is one, is unnoticeable.

FWIW -

I read that if California made it a point, with a PSA's for people to keep their tire pressure at the proper level, it would go way further than the rolling resistance thing and would cost nothing.

I get the point of that, but people will be people, and most people don't concern themselves with that sort of thing until it's more than obvious or becomes a problem.

I've worked in towing/recovery and auto repair shops most of my life, so I'm speaking from experience. lol

I have never owned one of the retard California approved gas cans
But I do have a can that I bought a replacement nozzle for about 30 years ago from a now defunct chain store called
Central tractor supply

But a tire at the proper pressure will have less rolling resistance than the typical over-inflated tire most people keep.
Proper tire pressure is best achieved by using the chalk test to verify you are utilizing the entire tread. Not just a narrow band in the middle, which is what happens when a tire is over-inflated.
