That is not the Iran we're fighting against.

We're fighting against the Iran that would execute those girls for getting caught out without their burka.

We hope to overthrow the oppressive regime and reinstate the one we were friends with in the 70s.

You know the one where women were allowed out without a chaperone ?

Iran had been alone among Muslim-majority states in popular backing for the U.S. after 9/11. As I wrote in December 2001:

“For three days after Sept. 11, scores of young Iranians held spontaneous candlelight vigils on Mirdamad Boulevard in northern Tehran to show solidarity with the U.S. victims of the terrorist attacks… Many here also watched with envy as the Bush administration lifted economic sanctions on Pakistan … and hoisted the American flag over the old U.S. embassy in Kabul last month.”

The U.S. and Iran also conducted quiet direct talks in Geneva and Paris for 18 months after 9-11 on issues related to Afghanistan, fleeing Al-Qaeda members, and what Iranians correctly saw as the impending U.S. invasion of Iraq. In May 2003, as President Bush was prematurely declaring “Mission Accomplished” in the Iraq war, Iran transmitted to the State Department a proposal via the then Swiss ambassador to Tehran for comprehensive negotiations to resolve outstanding issues over the nuclear program, terrorism, and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. As I wrote in my 2007 book, Bitter Friends, Bosom Enemies, the proposal was dismissed by the Bush administration as a trial balloon and got no response.

The U.S. rebuff further discredited the reformist camp in Iran that had pushed for talks. It encouraged the then Supreme Leader of the country, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to support hardliners in 2005 presidential elections. Yet, even within that camp, there were those who sought outreach to Washington two decades ago.

Mohsen Rezaie, a veteran commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), is now Iran’s national security advisor and considered one of the most influential figures in the regime since Israel assassinated Iran’s top leadership at the beginning of the war.

In 2005, when Rezaie launched one of several bids to be elected president, his then media adviser sought me out for an email interview. Rezaie, who led the IRGC for 17 years and molded it into a force that fought Iraq to a stalemate during their 1980-88 war, spoke of Iran’s economic problems and called for more cooperation with the West. He said Iran was open to talks with the U.S. on restoring diplomatic relations. If the Bush administration were to make a “rational offer to Iran, I believe a real transformation will take place in relations between Iran and America,” he wrote.

The people of Iran had a taste of the other side. The Shaw wasn’t perfect but they all got a taste of westernization; good and bad. They are pawns and shields currently due to lack of action toward their oppressors. Much like Venezuela, China, N Korea, Afghanistan, and Cuba.

Iranian government is hiring sluts to walk around without hijab for these propaganda videos. :)

Seriously, there are dozens of these videos on youtube to counter misinformation spread by our media about daily life in Iran.

How do you know this? Just because you want to believe it, doesn't make it so.
They are well informed about our role in their history. Shah, CIA, Savak, overthrow of Mosaddegh and so on.

Ya know the old saying
1 rotten apple can spoil the barrel

Well ya
That's what we're are fighting

Those Christian churches in Iran
Ya
They are being burned and the members kill in masses
Not by other Christians
Not by the jews
Not by the atheists
By the Islamics

So by my standards in order Not only to preserve my religion but my American culture those that are a threat must be eliminated

Wow. The BS is strong in this one. Those moderates you say "we" want destroyed are the same moderates that were murdered by the hand of the Radical Islamist Regime for having the temerity to protest. Estimates are over 20,000 of them. Do I want Iranians dead? The Mullahs, the Guard, and the Military leaders who have been actively trying to kill Americans, and really - any non-Muslims for the past 47 years. Do I want your YouTube ladies dead, or families? Of course not. But they're not launching missiles at anyone, are they? Believe it or not, the box of crayons is bigger than just black and white. If I have one criticism of the moderates - they are moderate in every single way. When military strikes decimated their leadership and the Regime was on the ragged edge, they sat back and did nothing, moderately. Then the Regime regrouped and now here we are. In a protracted shit situation.

you can believe what your told, but until I see proof of 20k plus dead, I dont believe it. Hear me out, not because radicals wouldnt do that. Its that I dont believe the media unless hard proof is provided. Im not saying these people are saints ,Im saying the media are devils

If you were going to present a war crimes charge to the ICC , what evidence do you really have? Not a whole hell of a lot .

Look, Im trying to make a general point that our media and government lies to us , hopefully some of you meatheads might take another look at whats being done to us

after failing so many times, the question becomes , is there enough Iranian people that want a puppet government friendly to the US and Isreal?

seriously, I believe thats the reason the multiple attempts backed by The CIA over the years have failed. the US isn't seen as a great shining light to imitate anymore. they have seen the US use the Kurds only to abandon them , and the Afgan allies , they see the moral decline in the west , the open homosexuality, the failure to hold agreements , the corruption. The open borders , I believe they might prefer what they have to what we offer.

maybe you disagree, but there are solid reasons regime change has failed multiple times

I don't trust the US media as far as I can throw them.

But it look like you'll trust the Iranian, or Russian, or Chinese state media like the gospel as long as they're criticizing the US, Israel, or the west in general.

You do understand they all lie, but those three *lie more*.

Smith-Mundt Act of 1948 originally prohibited the U.S. government from distributing information produced for international public diplomacy—such as Voice of America or Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty—within domestic U.S. borders. Lawmakers at the time wanted to prevent the federal government from using official media channels to shape domestic public opinion. [1, 2, 3, 4]

Since 1972, the act prohibits domestic access to information intended for foreign audiences. Prior to this, the United States Department of State and then the United States Information Agency (USIA) beginning in 1952, were prohibited from disseminating information intended for foreign audiences, with the express intent that Congress, the American media, or academia would be the distributors of such information.

For over sixty years, the Smith–Mundt Act prohibited the U.S. Department of State and the Broadcasting Board of Governors (BBG) from disseminating government-produced programming within the United States over fears that these agencies would “propagandize” the American people. However, in 2013, Congress abolished the domestic dissemination ban, which has led to a heated debate about the role of the federal government in free public discourse. Although the 2013 repeal of the domestic dissemination ban promotes greater government transparency and may help counter anti-American sentiment at home, it also gives the federal government great power to covertly influence public opinion. To curb the potential harm of surreptitious government propaganda, while also preserving the benefits of repeal, this Note advocates for requiring the State Department and the BBG to clearly attribute any government-produced programming these agencies disseminate within the United States. This Note contends that attribution can be best accomplished in one of two ways: by passing new attribution legislation similar to that of the failed Truth in Broadcasting Act of 2005 or by expanding the judicially created government speech doctrine to require these agencies to properly attribute any materials they distribute to the American public.
