TORONTO — Mark Carney built a global profile in 2026 by standing up to U.S. President Donald Trump. If some prediction-market traders and prominent admirers are right, the Canadian prime minister could end the year with the Nobel Peace Prize and Time magazine’s Person of the Year.

Time already named Carney one of its 100 most influential people of 2026 and specifically noted his popularity increased as he stood up to Trump.
On Tuesday, Carney was the second choice on major prediction markets for Time’s Person of the Year, behind New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The winner will be announced Dec. 10.
New York University professor Scott Galloway said Carney has it in the bag and called him “the leader that Europe’s been looking for for the last 20 years.”

TDS is real, and it's a very strange phenomenon.

Some people disagree/dislike/hate President Trump for whatever their reason(s). Some of those reasons could be valid, and I get that.

But then there's TDS; that's a whole different thing. IMO

I don’t know who he was for sure. I read he’s the leader of Canada. How can such an insignificant country have the most influential person and a Nobel peace prize winner? All they did was make our electric prices higher that will cause people to freeze this winter possibly. Outside of that he’s a waste of space. I can’t think of anything else he’s ever done.

FWIW - I heard someone say today that the former PM Justin Trudeau stood against President Trump because the EU controlled him and told him to. And that PM Mark Carney does it because he *wants* to. Something about Carney is a big supporter of the EU. I just thought I'd mention it.

I remember last year when Venezuela's leader, Maria Machado said she wanted to give her Nobel Peace Prize medal to President Trump. Because he was the one who actually deserved it.

The corrupt Nobel Institute said she couldn't do that, but she did anyway. lol

Machado presented her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal to President Trump during a White House meeting in January 2026.
