New York has broadened ammunition background-check rules and approved gun-storage requirements that will apply even in households without children or people prohibited from possessing weapons.

Gov. Kathy Hochul signed the two measures Wednesday. The ammunition restriction takes effect immediately, while the main storage provisions and related offenses in Francesco's Law take effect 90 days after enactment.

Since NYS has been doing the background checks for ammunition purchases for years, wouldn't this already be the case?

Yeah, I don’t understand this either. What the hell have they been checking for with these ammunition background checks then? I mean , before this , what would have prohibited you from purchasing it?

Makes you wonder with all these laws how gangbangers get weapons or ammunition!? A bit bizarre no?

And oh wait... Wasn't there this funny little SCOTUS Ruling that invalidated any requirement to unload or lock up a firearm in the home as it defeats one of the main tenants of the idea to "defend" oneself... Think it was that silly D.C. ruling so many years ago. But NY being NY, they'll pick and chose what they want to obey (Laws)...

Fuck NY!

I no longer have a dog in this fight as I'm not residing in NY, but my heart goes out to all of you still there!

You mean up until now, people prohibited from buying firearms were still allowed to buy ammunition? Then what is the fucking point of the background check? What are the qualifications to be a legislator in New York? A fucking heartbeat?

The dysfunctional legislature loves to make things double illegal especially when they fucked up writing the laws in the first place, make 'em look like they're doing something which they are by fleecing special interest groups out of money by making them think they're doing the lords work in their name, so long as those "donations" keep coming in.

Maybe they can buy it, but it was illegal for them to possess it as far as I know. This is very odd.

Dems must figure the bitch is gonna lose and want to cram as much dumbfuckery as they can while they can down our throat. Not much a republican governor can do in this gulag when the unconstitutional stupidity is codified.

It was already illegal for prohibited persons from possessing ammunition, and anytime there's been seizures they take all the guns and all the ammunition; any sort of prohibition would have already caused a denial with the ammunition BGC...redundancy and idiocy run amuck in Albany...This was ALL Dog & Pony show for political capital and campaign contributions; did you notice the venue and sponsors of the Dinner where these were signed? yea, pay attention to where the money is.

Well yes and no: I expect there's nobody coming to do inspections on your house, HOWEVER there's always the possibility of someone visiting and noticing violations of the Law: Troopers are constantly busting people for shit inside their Houses/Vehicles/buildings because they were INSIDE investigating/helping (see EMS/Fire) and just happen to notice something out in the open that's verboten, THEN they have jurisdiction.

As for myself, nothing is going to change, and IF they're here for me, not having my Pistol in a Safe isn't going to be an issue.

The fuckwads "representing" The People in general do not write the majority of Legislation they pass; Special interests concoct what THEY want and submit it through multiple Legislators they have sponsored, supported, or outright bought with intentions of being adopted...There are good people down there, but they are outweighed and outvoted by grifters from NYC and other democrat strongholds...For decades we've been saying change is a coming and given the shit storms spreading across Europe, there's a real chance of it landing here....bet those poor fuckers in France wish they still had those uncivilized guns now.

Having a heartbeat requires one to have a heart. So that qualification is ruled out.

Why? Government own your property? Show me that it does? Did you give consent? 4th amendment work for ya?

There’s a huge difference between saying they have no jurisdiction on private property and following the fourth amendment of the constitution. No jurisdiction means they can’t enter or enforce anything on private property or they can’t enter it. If a cop doesn’t have jurisdiction in an area that means they can’t enforce laws or enter that area. Big difference in following the constitution and no jurisdiction means
