Well, take it with a grain of salt, but I've read that a nice thing about 6.5 CM is that you can get really accurate factory loads for it compared to other calibers.

Yeah that is a pretty cool deal they're running. I like the XD, nice grip, nice sights, tracks well. I did find it to be a bit flippy, but I don't have anything to directly compare it to.

Nope. I'm at 15.5 months waiting here in Amherst. My friend (also in Amherst) put in his application about 2 months before me and received his after about a 15 month wait.

Yes, I do notice it. I still like his tests though. You still get a sense for the extent of the cavity compared to other gel tests.

Oh, yeah I know. Looks like he uses 12" blocks. Not ideal, but you just have to consider that when viewing. I have a feeling that he thinks if it exits the block that constitutes a "passing grade" by penetration standards.

Well that may be the case in your county, you would know better than I. In my county we don't need to do that. If that's correct, then it's even more limiting for you. Maybe other members here have some ideas of how you could try some pistols before you buy?

Don't worry about the recoil, generally the way people talk about it online it seems exaggerated to someone who hasn't experienced it. I think it only becomes an issue when talking about large rifle rounds, some magnum rounds, and 12 gauge shotguns and such. Once you have your permit you can try...

Once you have your permit you can rent pistols at a range before you buy, but of course ranges aren't going to have every model so it makes it difficult. :fuac: Also with the permit you can fondle all the models in a store, but your local ranges might not have the model you want to try and...

Welcome, you've come to the right place! You could always start with a long gun for home defense while you're working on your permit. I also went head first into firearms with none of my family ever owning any. Always nice to see someone like you with initiative.
