Shroud= a thing that envelopes or obscures something. That being said, It is a shroud. The manufactures may call it a chassis, but, by definition its a shroud.

I would have to say that, at that split second the slide is in the rear position, the barrel is exposed. Which means that, at that moment it is acting as a shroud, and you can not burn your hand....JM 2cents
