Hey gang,
I had one person drop out of our Chris Fry class at Blue Mountain Sportsman Center, Saturday November 12, 2016. I figured I would offer it up on here before announcing on our regular pages.
PRACTICAL PISTOL SKILLS with Chris Fry
I do a "Multi-State" class for permits for NH, ME, AZ, CT, VA. FL, MA and UT. It is an all day class. I charge $150 and provide all the applications for each state as well as fingerprint for CT, MA and AZ, and passport photos for ME, CT, MA, VA and UT.
Here is an example of one class I have...
We will be hosting a Practical Small Knife Skills class with Chris Fry on 11/11/16 from 6pm to 8pm. Only $25. For more info:

DEFENSIVE SHOTGUN with Ken Allen
About the Instructor:
Ken Allen has been an instructor since 1997, focusing exclusively on firearms instruction since 2009 when he joined the SIG SAUER Academy staff. In 2016 Ken began to...
Thanks Alistair,
I've said it many times, if your trainer doesn't train, then you need to evaluate your trainer.
We train as much as we teach. It seems like every weekend we are either teaching or training. I have to schedule in some "off days" every now and then, but for the most part every...
We drove up the night before and stayed at the Holiday Inn in Poughkeepsie. Drive to the range was like 15 mins from there.
Hotel is nice too. Far enough away from "downtown' Poughkeepsie to not have to deal with any of the "locals".
Saturday was great. I think my final round count was 500. I had brought 100 rounds with me, and probably 65 loaded mags, 43 of which I went through, and used the 100 rounds as well.
Nice group of shooters, very cool people.
As always Chris runs an informative, safe and interesting class...
We do an occasional 1911 Armorers Course. If people on here are interested I can set one up in Westchester for a Friday or Saturday night.
Usually runs about 3 to 4 hours and we charge $50. We provide the tools, you bring your 1911 and your cleaning kit.
I am planning on doing a 1911 only...
Forgot to mention..........
We will also be giving away "swag bag" to one lucky student. A nice Ruger back pack filled with tons of goodies from other manufacturers and companies.
Scotch Brite is good. add a small amount of oil and use light pressure. continuously. Be very gentle with it. It will work but even Scotch Brite can be harsh on finishes.
I have two slots left for this Saturday's Concealed Carry Defensive Pistol Class at Blue Mountain Sportsman's Center in Cortlandt Manor.
CONCEALED CARRY DEFENSIVE PISTOL
Class is normally $150 but I will knock $50 off for any nygunforum member who signs up.
Just pay the $50 Deposit, and PM me...
Saturday was great. Lots of fun and quality instruction/guidance.
I like that range. If you can book more dates there in the spring Chris, that would be perfect, only an hour from here!!!
Chris, Craig and PFC are all top notch. Craig is scary. Nice guy, but I stay arms length away from him 90% of the time. Not many people scare me, but this guy, half my size, scares me.
You should also check out Steve Tarani. I have taken many a Tarani class and he is serious business. Well...
Thanks Prambo,
yes we do. I am an Ultimate Training Munitions (UTM) Certified Instructor. I also assist as OPFOR on occasion up at Sig for one of the instructors in their Protective Shooting series of classes. So if you ever take those, you might run into me,...so to speak.
How far "up" are you...
Big thanks to those who started this group, looks like a great resource for those of us in NY, an otherwise oppressed state!
My name is Benjamin DeWalt, I run OnSight Firearms Training.
A little about me, I have been a life long gun enthusiast and life long martial artist. I currently teach at...
No problem Jon. I have sent the link out to a bunch of NYers I know that would dig this place and rest assured, while i cannot speak for Kenny, I will post as much as I can where I see fit. Great forum, hope to see it thrive.
I will start off by saying, I am glad I do not have your job. Seriously. Apart from the obvious job hazards you guys also have to deal with the thankless scumbags out there that constantly blame police for the actions of idiots. NEWS FLASH: Dont want to get shot by a cop? Dont point a gun or...
Yes and no. The training that is available to the average citizen/non LE/MIL is going to be different than that which is received at an academy or basic training, advanced MIL training, etc. Not to mention that in a crap situation I may not have that partner or team to back me up/pull me out...
At the end of my day, my job is come home to my family, alive and without more holes than I left with. I am not paid to do what LE does. Do I practice what I preach. *sigh* no. I wish I could. Yeah I see a burning building people inside screaming for help, I will tell YOU to call 911 get help...
Part of being a good instructor is knowing how to teach and being able to work with people. I know guys who have been in the LE and MIL fields for over a decade and would make horrible instructors if they ever chose that path due to their personalities and ability to interact with others. At...
EXACTLY.
The "my way or the highway" mindset should be avoided like a landmine filled with AIDS. Think about it like you would a toolbox, different tools and different types of the same tool for every job. I wouldn't pound in finishing nails with a ball peen hammer, nor would I hammer in roofing...
Thanks Jon,
I tell everyone who come to us, train with everyone. Train with us (obviously :), train with Paul @ Aim Small, train with Stretz, try with Chris Fry, train with any instructor/trainer who still trains with other instructors. Just do not train with anyone who no longer trains...
Ha! Maybe. It's sad that the state (mis)handles it this way. The entire "permit" process in this state makes no sense at all, especially counties like Westchester.
Westchester isn't 100% a no-go. I know many people who have received full carry permits, simply by applying for it. It really is all contingent upon what judge's desk the request lands on. There are a few pro-gun judges, but sadly more anti-gun. Someone once gave me a great piece of advice in...
Thanks for the mention and the kind words.
While we are all stuck in NY dealing with bulls*&t laws that serve no purpose other than to harass law abiding gun owners, we make do with what we have.
It's great to see so many people into serious training and not just settling for going to the...
