First I don’t believe this will pan out. That’s a lot of money and a lot of projected jobs. Also saying the average wage at over $100,000 doesn’t seem right to me, but keep in mind they are projecting these jobs to take years to develop. Of course we are giving them $6 Billion in tax breaks to start, I’m sure more will be coming.

Tesla never made solar panels here until very recently. Panasonic was making them for Tesla and crapped the bed on them. I think they moved their operation to China.

Global Foundries coming here was good for the building trades for a time. They also brought their own people from overseas for most of the higher-paying jobs, so we subsidized H1Bs from China and Singapore. Once the subsidies dry up, these places will stop updating their facilities and move on to the next handout.

I believe you are correct. I don't recall if I've said it here or not, but big companies love depressed areas like central NY. The area is so desperate for decent paying jobs that .gov (local and state) will give companies all sorts of tax breaks and grants with just about no recourse. Think how many times did Congel take advantage of the state and Syracuse/Onondaga county to build some grand mall with hotels, indoor pools, unicorns, and air conditioned with fairy farts. What the taxpayers got was a crap mall where people are shot and stabbed on a regular basis. I remember way back when Congel hired a bunch of workers at 100k a year to start build on of the expansions. Here's one of the articles on that. I'm more than willing to bet that micron will be doing much of the same we've seen before- take advantage of the taxpayers and make bank while doing so.
