Well unfortunately time has come for security system

Some a$$hat smashed the windshield of my truck on Sat night. Truck was right up against house. No other damage to truck or my wife's vehicle. Nothing was stolen. Getting it replaced this afternoon.



Have a pretty good idea who might have been responsible but it's a long unfortunate story involving family members and mental disorders that I'm not going to get into here. Reported the damage so I have it on record but didn't say anything about who I think might have done it because I have no proof and frankly don't want it to escalate. I've had no contact with this individual for several years and there haven't been any issues before this.

So ordered an NVR and six cameras so if it happens again at least I'll have it documented. Waiting for cable to arrive before I start installing it. People suck.

TL;DR - My cameras have been helpful in so many ways other than the most important one as in security. I would highly recommend to anyone that doesn't have a system to get one.

Come to find out they are useful for more things than just security reasons. Like knowing what comes on your property other than people like stray animals and wildlife. Or something like when an indoor cat comes up missing and I am able to review the camera footage on the back door to confirm he didn't get out the door. Stuff like that.

I have one of the 8 cameras pointed at my driveway this is useful for obvious reasons plus it's nice to sit in my primary chair (the security monitor is next to the chair) and be able to see when someone pulls into my driveway, like company, delivery people, or a State Trooper LOL, etc.

I keep one camera, what I call my "mobile" camera available to monitor different things as needed. A bunch of different things but for example, if I hear noises in my attic and wonder what got up there I will put that "mobile" camera up there and see what's up. Same thing in the basement, when it's not needed at the time for something else it usually sits in the basement monitoring the sump pit/pump area just in case, why not? I have so many examples I could list.

Typically you need an OEM rider for them to cover it. Yea, that's the progressive website and maybe he doesn't have them, but the insurance industry is pretty standard on that. Typically if you want OEM glass back It's an extra $400-600 out of pocket... unless you paid extra to have OEM parts coverage.

Well Safelite was a no show today... they were supposed to replace with aftermarket glass OEM wasn't even an option. I checked Ford parts (I believe it is actually through Ford as you pick up parts at local dealer) and the OEM windshield only lists for about $350 but is sold for $245. This is just windshield no urethane, etc. I'm thinking about calling Safelite first thing and giving them an earful. Unfortunately I paid in full when I booked it so hopefully they won't hold up a refund. Thinking about just ordering the OEM windshield and replacing it myself. Very frustrating....

Oh no insurance on this vehicle is 16 yrs old and I don't carry comp or collision.

Ha my 115# lab normally goes bonkers whenever anybody approaches the house or even is walking down the street. Not a peep out of her. But they were shooting off fireworks and we were having thunder storms so she probably had had enough by 2 or 3 am when we think it happened. Woke my wife up but she didn't think anything of it. I slept through it lol.

Yeah my boy will be numb to it at a certain point as well, he gets tired early and wouldn’t move if a nuke was dropped next door. But during the day if a mosquito farted he would lose his mind

Ordered 3M windshield urethane, primer and new wiper blades from NAPA. $440 all in (shipping, tax, etc) about $85 cheaper than Safelite (before tip) but at least I'll know how it was installed lol. Kinda pissed at Safelite not even a call that they wouldn't be showing up today.

Only experience I have with them is my buddy, who has a NY security systems license, told me to hardwire them. I'm sure the wifi cameras work fine though, provided your internet is up.

IDK. I have had a few windshields replaced over the years, and never paid a dime for any of them (other than the regular insurance policy).

I locked my keys in the work van once. Boss said "just smash a window, they are free".

Just checked (online so take it for what it's worth) but only AZ and KY have mandatory glass coverage. NY can offer full coverage (no deductible) as part of comprehensive but it's not free (meaning you have to pay a premium for glass to be covered).

I had my ford SoundScreen replaced. Free. No rider but yea “full glass” coverage.

yes. Many in here are against them.
We have six ring cameras. Two are wired and the rest are battery. We also bought an extra power cord so we can put the camera out by the pool as needed.
Internet goes out, comes back in, then they connect again.

That’s in your favor. OEM way to go. I have an aftermarket piece of shit that the wiper blades don’t even touch in one spot. I’ve seen your handiwork, This will as easy as putting a windshield in a revell model car for you.

Thanks brother. Been a while but actually have a little experience with this I used to help out one of my buddies in an auto body shop... but admittedly this was going back to when they first started using urethane instead of rubber gaskets lol.
