You can't make weapons grade plutonium in a commercial power reactor. You will end up with Pu240 mixed in with your Pu239, and even a small amount of Pu240 renders it unusable.
Separating those us even harder than separating uranium, so if you had the ability you'd be better off just making uranium.
To make weapons grade plutonium it needs to be a special design that allows you to remove the plutonium right after the Pu239 is formed before it can capture another neutron and become Pu240.

I just think the commercial reactors have nothing to do with it.
Their nuclear program is uranium based and they probably have enough material to build a bomb.
Plutonium bombs are hard to build.
Uranium bombs are so easy that the Los Alamos scientists felt the first design didn't even need to be tested, and that was before anyone had ever generated a nuclear explosion anywhere.

I agree with most of what you said. Uranium must be fined to be used in reactors or bombs. They know how to refine uranium. They learned it from us. That's why I'm pretty sure they have weapons grade uranium, in hostile world its a no-Brainer.

In case you want to know how the Syrians previously dealt with The Muslim Brotherhood...check out the Hama/Hamah massacre. These are some of the same spiritual elements in Gaza. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan don't privately give a damn about Gaza. Heck...in their own back rooms they're probably thrilled that Israel is taking out the regional trash.

Everyone knows how to do it. Hell, *I* know how.
But it takes an enormous industrial capacity to actually produce a usable quantity.
They have been working on it for a long time. We have sabotaged them, the Isrealis have bombed their facilities, but it was always just a matter of time before they accumulated enough.
Uranium is not difficult to purify, it just takes a lot of work.
That also means they aren't likely to have very many bombs.
Once you're set up for plutonium, then you can crank them out. But uranium is very time consuming.
