AFAIK, PA does not have a "Registration" process for Rifles, or even Handguns, so that's out.They claimed DNA because they stated he had no id on him, but as stated, against what match, so i call bs on the dna identification.
It was stated in the hearing today he was identified by the serial numbers off the rifle, and the only way they are doing that is with an illegal database (given the time frame they got the info).

When a PA Dealer processes a 4473, the NICS Center is only advised "Long Gun, Handgun. or Framer/other" and doesn't allow or compel the Dealer to disclose other information. (States like NY do have make, model, serial number requirements for their own databases)
ATF requires an "Emergency Phone Number" with their FFL Applications, and unless that Rifle or Receiver came directly from the Manufacturer (unlikely) the Feds would have to call that number, reach the person, then they would have to search Computer or Written records to see who they shipped it to, which in probability would be a wholesaler/distributor, and they would have to go through the same process to see who they sold it to and I'd expect that to be a Licensed Dealer, who then would have to be contacted with the date it was sold to them along with the specifics (make, model, serial number) and that Dealer would have to research their Records, which MIGHT be Computerized, still if everyone was working on a Business Day and ALL their records were Computerized and able to query would take a hell of a lot longer than a couple hours.
Let's not forget, the Feds said it was his Fathers Rifle that he took without permission.

EDITED TO ADD: There IS one thing I overlooked and was pointed out in the bearingarms.com Story: If the Dealer was no longer in Business, his Records would have been collected by a BATFE Agent and they would be scanned and digitized which would allow for a quick query, and possibly the scanned records might have been accessed to give them the Name of the original Purchaser or subsequent IF they did the Transfer through a defunct FFL.

The working theory investigators are exploring is that the drone would have given Crooks an overview of the rooftops of nearby buildings and how they connect, according to the law enforcement official. That could have helped him choose the spot where he fired the shots toward the podium where Trump was standing.
New evidence shared by multiple law enforcement officials also reveals that a ladder purchased by Crooks several hours before he opened fire and a backpack believed to have belonged to him have been located and are in the possession of federal authorities.
A man driving near the shooter’s home discovered the ladder and backpack on the side of the road, according to law enforcement sources from two separate agencies. The person reportedly saw the ladder in that location for several days before deciding to alert authorities.

My name is Kimberly Cheatle, and I am the Director of the United States Secret Service. I appreciate the opportunity to appear before you today. Last week, I provided a briefing to both chambers of Congress, and I am here today to answer your questions to the best of my ability.
The assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump on July 13th is the most significant operational failure at the Secret Service in decades and I am keeping him and his family in my thoughts. I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to the family of Corey Comperatore, a former fire chief and a hero, who was killed in this senseless shooting. I would also like to acknowledge those who were injured in Butler, Pennsylvania, David Dutch and James Copenhaven, and I wish them a speedy recovery.
I would be remiss if I did not also extend my condolences on the passing of your colleague, Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee. Ms. Jackson Lee was always engaged in the oversight of the Secret Service and her passing is a great loss to this body.
The Secret Service’s solemn mission is to protect our nation’s leaders. On July 13th, we failed. As the Director of the United States Secret Service, I take full responsibility for any security lapse. As an agency, we are fully cooperating with the FBI’s investigation, the oversight you have initiated here, and conducting our own internal mission assurance review at my direction. Likewise, we will cooperate with the pending external review and the DHS Office of the Inspector General.

Even worse. The gun store was closed down. Sure we all know they can trace the S/N back to the point of origin and from there a dealers 4473's (I believe that's correct). But this store no longer existed and yeah the records turned over, but it only took them 30 minutes to ID the shooter by way of the S/N.
It took them less time to track that S/N to an owner than it did for them to stop the threat!
No national registry my ass....an ad hoc one at a bare minimum.
