Ruger should be sending Christmas cards to kelTec (LCP) and Glock .

Fortunately for Ruger, the original Glock 19 Gen 3 patents have now expired (20 years in USA for patents issued in the late 90's).

[Vapor]

What does it do better than a PSA dagger or an aim surplus gen 3 clone?

So far, I see nothing and it's more expensive.

[Vapor]

Ah the one big question mark is the modular frame. That might be its advantage.

It makes money for Ruger.

Will it though? I have not been happy with tigers firearms and I’m not sure I’d buy another except a 10/22. I had to have my lcpII decorated twice because it rusted and only gin that’s ever happened to. My SR22 had to be sent back because 50% failure to eject rate. Only thing that came back to me was the frame and nearly everything else was replaced.

Like James mentioned, depends on aftermarket, or if Magpul is quick on multiple options. I wouldn't be surprised to see a G17-sized grip module option as well.

Interesting collab between Ruger and Magpul too.. I've had Magpul stuff on 10/22 for years so makes sense for them.

Stick to wheel guns Ruger.

Stick to wheel guns Ruger.

Their Mark IV is a solid .22 semi-auto pistol. I like mine. Way easier to dissemble than their Mark II, which I also have (inherited from my late grandfather).

Now be nice. My Ruger 10/22 takedown, PCC, and MPR are all in hearing range...and they are sensitive to such talk.

[FP1201]

Brownells sent out e-mails with them in stock...$399. is the prices on them from multiple retailers.
I hope this is better than the S&W copy; something like a SV9/svd/vd something? I have one that I bought for a ridiculously cheap price because the fucker wasn't reliable.

Ruger has yet to produce an aesthetically pleasing Pistol besides the Mark Series; Generally they're brutally strong and reliable, but only one step above a Hi-Point in looks.

[That_FNG]

Ruger is very good at taking existing ideas in the market and combining them and selling it as affordable reliable-enough firearms.

They basically took the idea of a Glock clone and combined it with the idea of an Sig FCU type pistol. So now you can swap grip modules like the sig, and yet utilize Glock barrels and slides. Look how big the Glock aftermarket is. You can buy a new gun and have a huge variety of parts available to customize it. If this also takes Glock holsters that’s a win.

Here's the thing...

My first dagger was $330. I decided I wanted a 19x sized frame. It was $50.

My investment is still less than the cost of the Ruger.

[Podmonkey]

I guess Ruger figures if you can't beat 'em join 'em. I do think it's kind of sad though,
Ruger had something in the SR9 series, instead of abandoning it for the budget Security 9 or the clumsy American they could have continued to iterate on the SR9 which was an updated continuation of Ruger's long running P series which had their own charm. Current Ruger automatic pistols are soulless and unappealing, releasing a Glock clone doesn't help that. Still I'd wager it sells, I can imagine there are people out there in the market for a discount Glock that trust the Ruger name more than PSA.
I'd sooner look for a good police trade-in Glock personally.

I'll laugh my ass off if S&W does a Glock clone too. Modern corporations ARE that stupid.

"We already have the M&P line as a top tier competitor and SD VE Series for tge budget market, why do a Glock clone?"

"Deerrrrr, people like da Glocks DERRR HUR DOOOO!!"

At least Ruger has the excuse that their native offerings don't sell all that well.

[Uzi]

I'll pass on all these cheaper variants and keep sticking to the Glocks. I just don't know why I'd need a cheaper form of a Glock?

[Vapor]

In fairness, my dagger is a sample size of one but....

I've put 500 rounds through it without a single issue, cleaning, or even lubrication. I wanted to treat it badly to make sure it was reliable.

Also I own 4 rugers and haven't really had issues with them save the OEM ten round magazine with my mini-14s.

[Brawny71]

None of which will matter if their QA doesn’t get real.

I’m seeing a street price on these as low as $399 currently. With this if I want a different size grip I don’t have to go thru the trouble of buying a whole nother firearm with the 4473 (plus nys whole adding it to a permit bullshit) the trigger on these seem to be cleaner and nicer than a PSA trigger. The Dagger seems to be hit and miss in regards to reliability or accuracy, so if Ruger at least meets the same level as the dagger I think this will sell. Being able to have a Glock clone, that takes Glock parts, and thus by proxy allows me to use the huge Glock aftermarket, and gives me a swappable FCU so I can change grip modules like my Sig’s is a very attractive firearm to consider purchasing.

[Vapor]

The swappable fcg is a moot point if they don't release other frames. Right now, there is only one size available.

I have an open mind. I like that it comes with steel and tritium sights. If they release a 19x size I'm game to consider one. (I like having multiple pistols but only 1 caliber/magazine).

Ah see, the 4474 is the only part I deal with now. No adding it to a registry for me

[dsdmmat]

Ruger poly 80…. If it is sub $350 I might have to get one or 6

[Celt]

Does it use glock mags?

[dsdmmat]

Couldn’t help myself. The LGS had two of them, now they have one. It is a Glock 19 size gun and takes Glock mags. The grip angle is the same as a 1911 and Poly 80. Comes in a hard case with 2 Magpul 15 rounder mags. Tritium front sight. Trigger is about the same maybe slightly better than most Glocks I have handled. Will see how it shoots Sunday.

Oh to live in free America...

Come on over the water is fine.

[Gunright]

I might wander in to Range USA ($399) to take a look at one on Monday. Free state of PA so no muss, no fuss.

gun.deals shows these being sold for as low as $350, but then I would have to deal with shipping cost and FFL transfer fee drama.

[Vapor]

I mean I need a house pistol, a garage pistol, a carry pistol, and always a back up.

2 out of 3 right now already take Glock mags, so if the Ruger performs well, I'm not 100% against picking one up. Esp if that price comes down around $350

[That_FNG]

Initial impressions are good. Reminds me of a shadow systems MR920. Trigger feels like a clean broken in Gen 3 Glock trigger with a 4.5lb connector. Grip texture reminds me of shadow systems grip texture but feels more grippy but not in a way that would tear your skin up when IWB. Sights are nice and easy to pickup. slide was very easy to rack and the grip angle feels very 1911. It points more naturally for me than stock Glocks do.

overall it seems like Ruger really nailed it. Looking forward to putting 200 rounds thru it in the next couple of weeks and seeing how it breaks in.

[kev74]

Should be interesting when the 3D printable frames become available.

Grab A Gun has a 10 round available.
