More than that:
SALE OF CERTAIN THREE-DIMENSIONAL PRINTERS.
1. ANY RETAILER OF A THREE-DIMENSIONAL PRINTER SOLD IN THIS STATE WHICH IS CAPABLE OF
PRINTING A FIREARM, OR ANY COMPONENTS OF A FIREARM
So, if you can print a magazine baseplate, a finger rest "gas pedal," or a grip panel, then the printer is prohibited.
Hey, NYS...GFY!

The New York State Government's answer to everything seems to be to ban something or raise taxes and fees. Sometimes create new taxes and fees and then ban something else.
Never in my life do I remember a time when one thing after another after another was banned in such quick succession. At some point, everything is going to be banned except for unvetted illegals as they are the Democrat's people.

Wonder how they plan to handle companies purchasing printers. I think we have half a dozen at the small company I work for. Does every company employee need to be checked? Will we need to put them behind lock and key and take them off the network?
This will just serve to wake more young people up.
This will just serve to wake more young people up.
It's clear they see the people of the state as threats to be neutered and not citizens whose rights are to be respected. Too many of the non-thinking people in this state are perfectly fine with it because of "public safety". Jesus, I hate this state. The absolute contempt they have fro their voters is on full display. Truthfully you have to blame the ignorant voters. This idea that the state will require a background check for an item that isn't illegal to own and therefor has no standing denying ownership, shows you how far along the useful idiot model is at the moment in NY.
Wait till you need a permit to order spools of material for the printers. That your order or PO goes to the county clerk for sign off by a judge! How the State will get compliance outside law for suppliers not to ship to NY unless to an FFL, and others run scared because they don't want a fight with a State that has deep pockets! Etc...
Sound Familiar?
Utterly ridiculous... And from the outside looking in, even more so!

Makes as much Legal sense as charging a Man with Rape because he has a dick, or charging me with a machinegun because I have a Lathe and a Milling machine. Here is the summary.
"Requires a criminal history background check for the purchase of a three-dimensional printer capable of creating firearms; prohibits sale to a person who would be disqualified on the basis of criminal history from being granted a license to possess a firearm."
So if it is capable of printing a firearm receiver then yes. A criminal background check.
The insanity will not stop until all liberty minded people leave NY state. Leaving them with a easily controlled population of minions who only seek free stuff. Their new problem will how to pay for that.
Good, we need more stupid shit like this.
I will go out on a limb and guess that less than 1% of 3D printer buyers use them to build firearms.
Out of the 99% remaining, I'll guess maybe 50% of them will be leftists.
When they get denied being able to buy a printer because of a silly class 4 felony for an illegal check from 30 years ago, they might get pissed.
I know for sure there are FAR more leftists with felonies than righties.

Kind of off topic, but I haven't found a single folding knife on Amazon that can be shipped to NY, but throwing knives and axes are no problem at all.

Pretty soon nobody will ship filament or polymer to NY at all because they won't want to deal with the byzantine requirements that will be added.
No "high capacity spools", you'll need a "keeper of polymer" certificate, have to ship to a licensed dealer for a background check.
Nope, nobody wants to deal with that, easier to just not ship to NY at all.

Free states exist, and unlike firearms, there is no law that says anyone outside of NY has to care about selling you a 3d printer.Until you have to put your zip code in the "Can this ship to me?" field when trying to buy a printer on-line.

Just like ammo out of state.
So nice to go places out of state, and you can walk up and touchy feely the box of ammo before buying it. You know if it ain't sealed, open it up to make sure it hasn't been fucked with before buying it. Just like it used to be for the most part in NYS.
Although, there are a few LGS in NY that don't give a rats ass and don't put the ammo behind the counter or lock it up behind lock and key.

Prusa prints a large amount if not all of the plastic parts of their printers. But yes, its completely doable to make your own printer from the ground up.
