What Are The Chances Of A Food Stamp Collapse In November?

The US government spends over $100 billion on SNAP programs every year; the largest single food welfare project in the world. It's difficult to predict what an end to SNAP might look like.
Food banks offer short term relief, though, these programs can be easily overwhelmed in the event of a broad cancellation of EBT.
In 2025 around 42 million people have tapped into federal SNAP benefits, which amounts to 12% of the population. More than enough people to create chaos should they be politically weaponized to do so. But what are the chances of food stamps actually being canceled?
The longest federal shutdown in history occurred in 2018-2019. It lasted 35 days and food stamps continued to remain available through the duration of the political standoff. That said, around half of the staff of the USDA was on furlough which led to delays in new applications and renewals. A shutdown would have to run for a substantial length of time beyond the record for SNAP benefits to completely vanish, right?
It really depends on Democrats. A number of economists are warning that the nation’s largest "anti-hunger program" has a contingency fund of about $6 billion, but November benefits are expected to total around $8 billion. The USDA’s shutdown plan noted that funding is available in the event of a lapse, but if the current conditions hold, SNAP would ostensibly run out of cash in early November.

What It Will Take to Get U.S. Citizens to Work the Farm — According to Dolores Huerta

With ICE officers chasing undocumented immigrants through fields and barging into meatpacking plants, workers are spooked. Even before the farm raids, workforce shortages and economic uncertainty rankled the industry. Now, as harvest season arrives for many crops, concerns are growing that there may not be enough workers out there to feed the country.

I don’t see this happening. Someone will cave. If snap is shutdown there will be political hell to pay. Both sides have many constituents on these programs. I sisp ct state like ny and ca will cover the program in the short term to gain some political love if it happens. It will be interesting as usual

It's not the governments job to feed people.

I hope this goes on long enough that the funding for reopening the government runs out.

My gods....

How I hope this really does happen.

This would be nothing but freaking awesome.

Snap program should only cover one meal per week and that is all ..

because that's all you really need to stay alive ..

hell i have been out of work and used my last 20 bucks for gas , 5lbs of processed ham load , bread , mayo ..

that's all i ate for 2 weeks till i found a job ..

If the Free Shit Army loses their SNAP benefits, they're going to lose their shit!

Sure am glad I don't live in or near a populated area where there could be a bunch of hungry fat asses looking to steal food.

Prepare to read about the Walmart's and convenience stores being looted on a mass scale.
The stores will be damaged and the shelves will be empty.

The trucks delivering/resupplying food to the looted stores will have to have armed security, as the animals will target the food delivery trucks.

The stores might even have to close and board up the windows.

I don't know what's going to happen, I'm just speculating.
It will be interesting to see what comes of this.

On a side note.

Just in case.

Maybe it would be a good idea to get the necessary stuff for Thanksgiving dinner a little ahead of time this year.

IDK. I just thought I'd mention it.

[Modean]

No worries, in a couple of weeks they will be eating each other. Or finally find the motivation to get a job.....

[JunkBoxFull]

Its time to end the socialist free handouts to able bodied people who can actually work. I`m sick of paying for their free fucking meals, free healthcare, free cellphones, free place to live. Nobody pays for mine, you lazy god damn mutherfuggers! Let the fuggers whither on the vine! Fuggin raisins!

I think it should be for a certain amount of time and one would not be eligible for another block of time. The only approved items would be dried rice, dried beans, powdered milk, vegetable oil and canned tomatoes at a certain amount per month per person.
Those are literally the only things one needs to have a balanced diet with enough calories to find a way to better yourself

Anyone on benefits that is not disabled should be asked what do you want to do in life when they apply. When they say I want to be a nurse, a teacher, and electrician they should be given free training by the government at a local training center with food and housing through the program. They should be given a time frame to complete this and it should be a faster time frame because they aren’t working. After this is complete they are never eligible for government assistance again outside of some horrible things happening to them.
This limits our liability and then they would be put in certain jobs where we will realize a return on our investment through income taxes.
The government should be run like a businesses and financing company. If investing in such a thing doesn’t provide a return then we don’t do it. If giving a person 4 years free college to be a teacher doesn’t end up with us getting a net benefit then they take another path. Yes I know teachers need a masters degree but that should be on them or the district once they start teaching.

You have shared some pretty strange and F'ed up opinions on the forum in the past....

But, this one tops all said in the past.

Enough of all the free shit stolen from some to give to others.

Cannot do this on your own? Tough shit, you fail in the game of life.

[S&W Fan]

I’m certainly Not for free shit for everyone, especially people who refuse to help themselves. I’m sick and tired of paying taxes through the nose and getting jack shit for a return. However I do know young people with and without kids who both work and are still struggling and even the smallest assistance helps.

I am picking up what you just placed down. I really am.

Where I live now, very poor area. Lots of poor people. Actually, massive amounts of them.

I know some of these people. Hard working, salt of the Earth kinds of folk.

Had a conversation with a couple of them today at the county building.

I do feel for them, both parents work, just not enough to cover all of their needs.

One lady I was talking to, she get food assistance for her family. She works, her husband works. One of the problems here, the rates of pay are very, very low. Even me, no empathy in most cases, I feel bad for her.

The system is so broken, needs to be mended. The only true way for it to end is to scrap it and retool who gets assistance and how they receive it.

[TEOTWAWKI inc.]

We punish productivity through taxes and use those taxes to incentivize laziness.

How can anyone with half a fucking brain think this system makes sense?

What is the actual goal they are trying to achieve? I'll quit working right now if I could maintain the same rather comfortable lifestyle.

One thing that many do not get....

A generation ago, so many Americans in their local communities would "come to the rescue" to assist others in the community.

While it still happens, it is rare. Neighbors would help others without needing a thank you or a shout out.

Food pantry's were full by individual donations.

You know, I got chickens. Too many chickens for my family's need.

I have no need to sell the extras, I give them away. I was taking a bunch to the Court building that people could just take home. I stopped in the past week or so, 2 different people complained that some of the FREE eggs were too small and that I must be hoarding the larger ones.
