I do not foresee much looting or stealing from the food stores.

Our demographics do not fit that mold.

Sure, I am positive that some will steal, but not too many.

Same thing here in this part of Western New York where I live.

I live where I do for a reason, that didn't happen by accident.

35 years ago, when I moved from the rural swamps of South Carolina to Western New York, I was looking to buy a property that would help in my transition and my way of life as I knew it. So I bought a property that was surrounded by swamps.

#1. No public sidewalks (human highways) anywhere nearby.
#2. No bus routes anywhere nearby.
#3. Everyone here looks like me if you catch my drift, well, except for the Indians, but the tribe that I live next to are good people for the most part.
#4. Private well, municipal water just seems like a really bad idea to me. YMMV
#5. Rednecks, Swamp People, Indians, Dogs and Backhoes. Woo Hoo!

One of the biggest differences here in these swamps in WNY, other than wintertime and Albany.
Is the lack of the occasional hurricane, venomous snakes, and alligators. As strange as it may sound, I miss the snakes. But it's nice not having to deal with the hurricanes and gators.

But if somebody has to live in New York State, where I'm at is the place to be. IMHO

We searched high and low for the perfect (best) place in our budget.

The closest sidewalk to me is at least 5 miles away.

Bus route?? There are NO busses here. Not a single bus stop in the entire county.

The look, indeed, I catch the drift. Again, we choose very wisely. Demographics were HIGH on the list.

We are on public water. A well on the property is on the list to get done.

The people here are doing everything they can to keep things this simple.

That's how it is here where I live. We hunt deer even when we are not hungry. Ask me how I know.
Plus, the gardens and farm markets, and just the way of life around here.

I swear, my stands are located on a deer Thruway. There are so many deer around here, it's ridiculous. In fact, as I have posted here before. A mile down the road from me, there is a road sign (deer crossing sign) that doesn't say the usual "deer crossing for 1 mile" or whatever.

Now that the rut has started, driving down these back roads, especially at night, is sketchy at this time. A friend of mine hit one a couple of mornings ago while driving to his work/job.

When I went to school during the 1970s, there was no such thing as a school breakfast. Back then, parents or even the kids themselves made breakfast at home before going to school.

There was no such thing as lunch programs either. Parents sent their kids to school with a lunch made at home or money to purchase the school lunch, which didn't cost very much.


I think I might be straying off topic again, so I'll stop for now.

School lunches should be tasty, nutritious, and dirt cheap.

They were all three when I was a kid.

And they shouldn't be free, but I think there should be some work available at the school for any kid that needs lunch money. Maybe spend an hour a week cleaning bathrooms or helping in the library and you're covered.

It's not about the money, it's about the lesson. It's not just that there isn't such a thing as a free lunch, there *shouldn't* be.

The market currently assigns a 15% probability that the shutdown will end between November 12 and 15.
We have warned readers of the potential for major disruptions to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) if the federal government remains closed. Betting odds markets and limited political chatter in the Capitol Beltway this weekend (so far) suggest a resolution to the shutdown remains muted for next week.

In 2025, around 42 million people relied on SNAP benefits, which accounted for 12% of the population. This is more than enough people to create chaos should SNAP funds run dry in the coming weeks.
And now, as Jill McLaughlin details below for The Epoch Times, Gov. Glenn Youngkin declared a state of emergency in Virginia on Oct. 23 to provide relief for residents at risk of losing federal food benefits next month.
