Mexico has a bit of a problem on its hands. In retaliation for the death of a cartel leader, the cartel has gone to war with the Mexican government. The images and video are scary. I never had the desire to travel to mexico and I sure as hell am not going now.

Probably 10 years or so ago, one of my engineers was working at a Corning plant in Reynosa to commission some new equipment that we sold them. He was staying at a hotel on the US side and would take a bus across the border to the plant every day. One of the days he was there, the plant folks he was working with came to him and told him to go now and get on the bus. He grabbed his laptop and most of his tools and got to the bus for a hasty getaway of some kind of pending cartel violence or possible kidnapping, etc. He got out safely and came home, and we never returned to finish starting up that equipment. Things I think have been getting worse steadily since then.

Reynosa is super sketchy. Has been for a long time. I was on a team opening some new facilities in McAllen TX for the company I worked for at the time about 8 years ago. McAllen is directly adjacent to Reynosa. Even back then it was someplace you didn't really want to go to as an American.

It was a popular location for medical procedures like dentistry. You cross the border and what would cost you thousands here would cost a few hundred there. At the time I was there, there was a "truce" between the Mexican feds and the cartels. The cartels stayed away from the area directly by the border, which was where all the medical stuff was located. If you went beyond that the cartels controlled it.

I’m not much for pig’s feet or slimy skin on chicken, and I just don’t understand the cheese covered corn cob on a stick that they eat like ice cream cones.
