As usual with most anything Democrats propose (and as I said in the other thread), I support the idea being advertised but oppose the method of implementation.
What they really should be taking aim at is streetlights, businesses, and public buildings. Lights outside houses don't even approach the levels of light pollution those three produce.

I wish this would pass! I’m so tired of all the flatlanders who buy second homes here in the Adirondacks and pollute the night sky with excessive “security” lights. Scared of the dark? Stay in your city.

Make all outdoor lights strobe lights. That's basically how many dimmers work.

They just want NY to look like the night satellite photo of North Korea!

Us telescope nerds on the forum are all for dark skies. If you want an outside light just shield it so the light goes down where you need it not up in the sky. Besides it provides good training for my night vison goggle ... er I mean IF I had someI wish this would pass! When will it stop? Here in NY, I'm beginning to feel more like a subject than a citizen.
The New York Government is the enemy of freedom.
Being constantly told what I can or can't own, what I can or can't do, is getting really old.

Just more tax and spend.
At night when you drive by my house you will see zero lights until you get ON my property, then only lights at door openings come on. I don't like to have to look through the glare while sighting in on you; just enough for center mass.

This is the Manhattan Assemblyman who has been pushing this shit. Her bill claims the light pollution to be a city issue but the bill drags the whole state down.
This lying liberal lesbian (President of the Lesbian and Gay Alliance) is full of shit that her bill is about education and not fines. Then why in the hell does she have $100, $200, $500, and $1000 fines in her bill.
This is also the asshole responsible for initiating Mondami's luxury real estate taxes, bills that Sanction pediatric mental health providers who provide parental requested treatment or therapy to LGBTQ+ minors / children, and killing the Southern Tier with the prohibition of upstate fracking.

“provides exemptions for essential outdoor
lighting, including lighting fixtures on advertisement signs on interstates and federal highways”
Because when I think of “essential” my mind immediately goes to advertising.

Read how it's written, though. You'll end up getting ticketed for leaving your porch light on so you don't have to fumble in the dark when you get home from work.I wish this would pass! I’m so tired of all the flatlanders who buy second homes here in the Adirondacks and pollute the night sky with excessive “security” lights. Scared of the dark? Stay in your city.
As the YouTube series says: "Sounds like a great idea! With the best of intentions! What could possibly go wrong?"
Just like gun control. Take away the guns, no more innocent lives lost, right? Great idea, best intentions, results in disarming the law-abiding and creating defenseless victims for the criminals.

The way its written you can leave your porch light on as its likely less than 70 watts LED or 150watts incandescent. If its motion activated you can do whatever you want.
What a useless bill with no way to enforce.
