Israel flew over the USS Liberty a total of 7 times that day. Audio was recovered from the IDF flight tower asking them to confirm the ships identity multiple times before the attack. The planes not only attacked the USS Liberty but also dropped napalm on the ship. When the pilots were asked if they were going sinking the ship, they responded by saying "We have to leave something for their naval ships to do" and then the USS Liberty was torpedoed by Israel. Not to mention, the USS Liberty's radio frequencies had been scrambled that day, of which only allies knew the frequency of. Once the crew was able to get message out to the closest US ship, 500 miles away, that's when Israel contacted the ship and said "oh, we made a mistake." The USS Liberty limped to a dry dock in Malta and after 2 weeks of virtually erasing the damage to the ship they were sent back to America. Upon returning the crew were secretly given service awards without the president in attendance. In the following months president Johnson was visited by numerous Israeli lawyers and with the election looming the following year he chose not to go public with the incident.
Allegedly, Israel was killing Palestinians and that ship picked up on their transmissions

If you really want to know more about it, read the book “Assault on the Liberty” written by an officer onboard who survived it.
Particularly disturbing is the fact that when they were able to get a distress call out in spite of radio jamming by the Israeli’s to a US Carrier and who then went to launch US fighters to stop the attack,- and could have been there in mere minutes,- that US Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara broke the chain of command and immediately and directly ordered the carrier’s Captain NOT to launch fighters to defend the Liberty!
The whole damn episode stinks to high Heaven.
McNamara NEVER answered for his actions. And President Johnson was a damned corrupt POS who is hopefully burning in the fires of Hell for all eternity.
Among US Navy sailors, myself included, it is a very sore topic to this day.

I read that planes were scrambled and were told to come back! They also kept one of our life boats for a trophy and were shooting at men at the life boats.
I can’t remember now if the fighters were going to be launched, or if the Captain had already launched them (you’re more likely correct), but definitely that Secretary McNamara had immediately jumped into direct radio communication with the carrier’s Captain to order them NOT to send US fighters to defend the USS Liberty when they could have halted the Israeli attack in mere minutes and saved US sailor’s lives.

I personally think we need to just stay out of other countries crap for the most part and work on our country. We have plenty of budget holes to fill here and yet we keep spending money and dropping bombs elsewhere. If Iran was making nukes I get it, but who knows what to believe. I believe little of what the government says from anyone or any side. I just belief less of the left and disagree with most of it if it’s true anyway.

To believe a Government that states "Iran is making nukes" is like believing the same Government that stated Climate change, WMD's in Iraq and we are all going to die because of Covid. Utter Bullshit!

You use that word "confirmed". I do not think it means what you think it does. The liberty survivor states that but he never spoke to LBJ so he can't confirm it.
