Now that is freaking hilarious. The guys voice sounds like he is actually from house hunters. He has the perfect voice for that advertisement. This is a smart ad and well done.
Been there, done that.
Plenty of options like that are available just over the border. Moving to PA was one of the best decisions we have ever made. I just wish we had done it sooner.Been there, done that.
I, mistakenly, thought that being debt free and earning a six-figure salary would enable me to purchase the "house of my dreams". A modest 2000sq.ft. 3 bed, 2 bath home with garage and approx 5 acres of land.
Nope.
You need at least $70k for a down payment and your monthly payment would end up being around $3k. Add that to the roughly $2k/month I pay for all of the other essentials like electricity, propane, internet, water, etc., and I'm living at the edge of my paycheck. one small disaster and it's the short road to bankruptcy.
No thanks.
Fuck NY. The American Dream died at the border.
Just don't overstay, it's a trap. Just don't plan on living the rest of your life, retiring or prematurely dying in PA, the death tax on the gross of your estate and worth will kill your surviving family .... just saying.Plenty of options like that are available just over the border. Thanks for the heads up. We are starting to work on our after death plans, so I will address this with our financial planner. I know in NY both our parents did something with their homes to alleviate some of the tax burden, I'm sure there is something we can do here as well.Just don't overstay, it's a trap. Pennsylvania’s inheritance tax is significant because it is one of the few states that taxes direct descendants and siblings. Rates range from 4.5% to 15% based on your relationship to the deceased, and the tax is paid by the beneficiary. They tax all the shit you already paid taxes on and this inheritance death taxe are an out-of-pocket burden for your loved ones.

They tax everything you got in PA but they can't touch your NY camp. A good tax attorney can help. Ours advised told us to NOT become a citizen of the Commonwealth in the Golden Years (nor did they recommend staying a NY citizen past 73 years old because of RMDs when low Sr NYS tax burdens explode in spite of no NYS tax on Social Security, no NY tax on NYS pensions, no NY tax military pensions and the 20K retired income exclusion). Thanks for the heads up. We don't have a ton of cash, but we do own our home, a commercial rental property, an upper/lower rental, and our camp in NY. We're both approaching 60, so we should probably get our asses in gear and address this.
You can do that just fine, just not in NY.Been there, done that.
