This is probably not a risky choice by the Governor (who knows her). Unless she decides to run (which is unlikely) it frees up the other candidates to focus on winning the seat.
This short term appointment should not be an issue. This is not the first time a surviving relative was given a short term appointment to complete a political vacancy due to death.
AFAIK, she is a Southern Baptist / South Carolina Republican just like the people she would represent. There is nothing wrong with that.
She will be keeping and trusting her brother's staff (she knows them, they know her, campaigned with them, they have been with the Senator's office for a long time, his staff is close, loyal, a they have a reputation of being competent and there is less turnover in Graham's office than most any other on the Hill. )
For good or bad, her votes would not differ to the votes her brother would have cast. (She will vote pro 2A and is providing a good home for her brother's guns and cats. She is not a nutcase like @spat sister is touted to be.) She would trust her staff and constituents more than a lobbyist or polititian.
For good or worse, she probably would not have the influence her brother had on the Hill but sometimes an honest representative citizen may be better than a career politician.
If she decides to run for her brother's seat (so far she plans on bring a placekeeper), the good people of South Carolina will figure things out in August and November. Her greatest strength now and potentially later would be inheriting a staff better and more honest than most any rookie Senator could put together.
I'd be more concerned if Hochul appointed Schumer's wife, Iris Weinshall (who has deep ties to the progressive political left) to fill his seat in similar circumstances.
