Correct. Palestine was given their area, they in turn gave it to Hamas to govern and there was no further elections to date. They had a Free Palestine. They almost immediately started tunnels to attack their neighbor

If Hamas is truly not an arm of Iran, why is Gaza important to Iran?

my opinion is that they are not an ""arm"" of Iran. their interests converge and make them natural allies, Like US and Isreal . They buy weapons and recieve aid like We do with Isreal or Ukraine , we dont really tell them what to do per say. but our purpose'es align .

The average person in Gaza did not condone what happened Oct 7 in their name. The average person in Iran right now out numbers the Revolutionary Guard and know where each military base is. The proxies being brought into Iran show “Whoever” is in charge knows this. The Proxies have no comradeship to the people. But the people could well affect the change.

You would normally think this . the CIA has tried multiple time to instigate a revolution in Iran and has never been sucsessfull , Peronally I dont think it has enough support from the people , One reason may be the US abandoned the Kurds in th e 90's , I dont think that lesson has gone unnoticed, it abandoned some of the Afgans during the pull out and only god know what the Taliban did to them .
