Trump said the United States entered a deal with Venezuela to take control of 65 billion barrels of oil reserves.

Biggest loser here: Iran - since it further diminishes their influence on world oil markets.
Second biggest loser? Canada. They have been rendered irrelevant with the stroke of a pen. While we certainly should work with Alberta and make our own deals there, Ottawa just lost the vast majority of whatever economic leverage they might have had left.

I don't think the order is correct. Canada should be hurt the most. Most oil out of Canada is heavy oil (Tar Sands oil). ALL oil out of Venezuela is heavy oil. It's cost effective to bring in tanker loads out of Venezuela because you can reload the same tankers with frac oil (extra sweet/light) to ship right back. Venezuela buys the frac oil to mix with their heavy crude to make light sweet crude. It's much easier to sell light sweet on the open market. For many years American refiners were trading with Venezuela barrel for barrel with no cash exchanged. As strange as it sounds, Canada won't have much luck selling heavy crude on the open markets. Canada will need to do two things ASAP: 1st they need some big pipelines to handle at least 4 million barrels per day going to each coast and 2nd they will need to start buying frac oil to do what Venezuela does now. It will cost them big $$$ and it opens another new market for USA oil fields. Trump has done some questionable shit lately. This actually makes real good long term sense.

Great points and this is something often overlooked. Many think oil is oil, but it’s not. Refineries are set up to refine specific oil form specific areas hence why we import oil and still export it.

I never understood the "no war for oil" sentiment.

The entire world runs on oil. It's kinda important.
"No war for oil" is like saying "no war for food". It's easy to say unless your supply is actually under threat, then you'd damn well better fight for it.

I get people don’t want us fighting wars over oil and to get it, but there has been wars for resources since the dawn of humanity.
