Long Range Training With .22LR

[squib]

I zero @ 50yds.
Keep in mind the amount of elevation you will need to shoot 200yds and more with .22lr. When purchasing optics and bases.

For most shooting 50 yards.

With a 20-30 moa base, would I need more elevation?

[nortatoga]

What shooting 22's rifles or pistols is really good for is developing and maintaining Muscle memory - Wikipedia trigger control breathing! When I work a County Pistol Safety Class I always say there is nothing wrong with starting out with a 22 pistol, Most of us will end up with one anyways! And it's all about trigger time.

Most likely you will want at least 20moa base. It really depends on how many "useable" MOA your optic has.

For example CCI Standard velocity needs around 26.5moa of elevaton @200yds and 50moa @300yds.

Pretty sure I am getting a T1x here soon. What optic power would you suggest? And parallax minimum?

[GoodGuywitha9mm]

In the nice weather my Club has a monthly F-Class match (Belly-Benchrest) 200 yards centerfire and 2 years ago 100 yard rimfire was added! These are practice matches just to get the members out shooting together for some good safe fun! We had a local Marine shooting team (retired) come out one time and 4 of the 5 guys shot the 22's because they never get to shoot them in matches!

And as @Phauxtoe mentioned above Appleseed does what they call KD (Known Distance) for shooter's that are doing well at the shoots standard distance of 25 meters on the AQT's. So at my Club we can go out to 200 yards with larger targets.

"My Club" would be??? ...and open to public, or members only?

That would be SaraSpa Rod and Gun Club - Home on Porter Corner Rd Greenfield Center. General usage is for members only, though there are some actives that are open to non-members ( Trap/Sporting Clays on Tues evenings and Sat mornings, IDPA on Tues and Thur evenings, High-power rifle F-class as I mentioned above, CMP and a Tactical match along with bi-weekly 22 rimfire fun shoots over the Summer on Fri evening which includes a BBQ each for a nominal fee for members and non-members. Watch the online Calendar if anything interests you?) Club membership will reopen in the fall Oct/Nov, There is a 5 hour orientation class required.

Depends on the distances your gonna zero and shoot. If you want to zero at 25yds it rules a lot of optics due to the parallax adjustment.

I know I want to shoot Atleast 200 yards so maybe a 50 yards sight in?

I run an Athlon Ares BTR. FFP
6-24 power on a 20moa base. 50yd zero and shoot out to 300yds. With standard velocity CCI.

How do u like the athlon? I have been eye balling the 4.5-27 ares btr. Would you recommend a higher magnification than the model I listed?

[nortatoga]

I have a Weaver T-24 on my Ruger 77/22 that I was shooting in a Benchrest league (50 yards) will work fine for 100/200.

How To Use a 22LR for Long-Range Training

I found this to be an interesting article. Anyone out there doing this? Any additional pointers or comments?

Gave the article a read and I dig it. But I'll use any excuse to shoot .22, or guns in general haha. All of this comes down to one thing: I want a .22 "sniper". The most accurate .22 rifle I can find, whether out of the box, or by modification.

REALLY eyeing a Marlin 7000 or 7000T, maybe adding a DI Products trigger... Anyone running a 7000? I Iove my 795, and I believe the 7000 is just the same thing with a heav(ier) barrel and no sights. Apparently it didn't sell well, but I have no doubt it's crazy accurate out of the box. The 795 still impresses me, and I can't even use it to its potential..

For the money, the RPR (rimfire) looks good to me, but I've also been considering starting with something like this and doing a ground up build;

Anybody got some "real world" recommendations?

The Athlon Ares is a pretty good scope for the price. More magnification never hurts if your shooting paper. I personally only use more than 15x when shooting prone stages more than 500yds or from the bench.

Oh wow... I actually didn't know building a 10/22 from the ground up was even a thing! I could see it easily hitting $1,000 though.. For guys who have went all the way with a target build, how did it compare to a typical 10/22 target model from the factory? Was it worth the difference in price for example? And how did it compare to a high value bolt .22 like the XT-22, Savage Mark II and so on? Or even to something like the CZ-452?

And yeah, still interested in the Marlin 7000, but can't find a ton of info on it anyway..

[ProgSpear]

And then I found this....

As they used to say in the auto racing world, "the only thing that beats cubic inches is cubic bucks..."

You can get the Athlon Ares BTR for $600. I couldn’t find the higher magnification one for the same price

I’m thinking maybe I’ll just throw my Steiner P4Xi on my trainer. I have a vortex pst gen 1 sitting around also. Steiner might be over kill
