This to me is an important aspect of the article. Industry experts say we will face an increase of around $2-3 billion a year as a result of this scheme. Most of the money collected will not go to our areas and will be for the under privileged. When does that stop and when are they no longer under privileged? When we give them $100 billion?

3 billion divided by 20 million is $150. So our bills will increase $150 per year for the next ten years. You also know that last bit of carbon decrease will get very costly and the carbon credit maximum cost increase 7% per year. That’s for 10 years so slightly over 70% increase because the costs will be compounding. I don’t have time to do the math or I would. Yikes. Now add in many other areas and this could get expensive fast. Natural gas, gasoline, and many others will also be impacted.
In July, Caiazza pointed out that New York’s permits have sold at a record price of $35 per ton of CO2, and that the utility providers who bought them added around $1.1 billion per year to New Yorkers’ utility bills to cover those costs. He said that greater demand for electricity, delays in building renewable energy, and Virginia rejoining RGGI in July drove up the price for allowances. And, since inflated corporate costs trickle down to consumers, he calculated that New York taxpayers could actually face between $1.8 billion and $3.2 billion in total real annual price hikes going forward.

Caiazza and the Empire Center’s Zilvinas Silenas found that, since 2021, RGGI-funded projects reduced CO2 emissions by just 7.6%. They attributed most drops in pollution to companies switching to cheaper natural gas that pollutes less than coal and oil.

They also lodged complaints about potential market leakage, arguing that RGGI just shifts the corporate burden of emissions onto non-participating states without really reducing those emissions. According to Caiazza and Silenas, not only could the state run out of permit allowances by 2032, but New Yorkers already spend 60% above the national average on electricity.

Either way, the state is earmarking the auction revenues for vulnerable poor and minority neighborhoods. New York’s 2019 Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act requires that at least 40% of clean energy funding and investments—like energy-efficient public housing upgrades or training for green jobs—go to those disadvantaged communities disproportionately burdened by pollution. To that end, the state government is distributing $2 billion from the Sustainable Future Program to lower energy costs, cut emissions, and encourage job growth in the green energy sector.

He made a bold statement. If he wins, I think it's a promise that he won't be able to deliver on, and people will hate him for it. Don't get me wrong, I want him to win, I just think cutting utility bills in half won't happen no matter who the governor is.

Anyway, as I have mentioned here before. Even though, at this point in my life, I'm using half the electricity I used to. My electric bills are now twice as high as they used to be.

Some years back, when I used more electricity, my highest electric bills used to be around $200
Now that I'm currently using much less electricity, my highest electric bills are around $400
WTF is that shit?

My electric bill was $100 last month, and that's without using my AC very much.

Years back, I'd let the AC run most of the day. Back then, I also spent a lot of time in my shop using a ton of electricity, and my bill would have been half of that $100. Probably around $50 or so.

I swear the more solar farms I see going up here locally, the higher my electric bill goes.
IMO this is more about graft than it is global boiling. In fact, I'm sure of it.

Yes he will. Nearly half our bills are taxes. He can get rid of them in minutes. Right now the state bans the utility companies from disclosing what is a tax on our utility bills and what is not. If he’s in charge he can tell us and make them all look like fools. Both gas and electric are about 50% taxes. Most of it is in delivery charges and goes to NYSERDA to do projects around so we feel good about paying them. This is talked about in the article I posted above how this will no longer be good enough. That’s how we have the power authority fishing pier and some other boat launches and parks.

I would die for a $100 electric bill. Mines more than twice that in the winter. Mine was over $500 last month and I’m expecting close to $700 this month.

Nearly all that delivery goes into a fund as a tax to make improvements in your area. I saw an interview with a guy representing the gas and electric company where he said about 50% of each bill was taxes. One was slightly above 50% and another slightly below 50%, I don’t remember what one was what. I also remember him saying nys forbids them from displaying it on the bill showing it as a tax so they were trying to take some legal action. I have looked and I can not find the video or article about it any longer… I wonder why?

I have a hard time believing any "improvements" have been done in this area. We still have issues with power reliability during heavy winds/storms.

Unless "improvements" means more money for the bureaucrats in the local offices.

Although AI searches leads one to believe that utility billing is transparent it's decieving bullshit and search results come out that way due to the flooding of stakeholder propaganda on the internet. Details are available when searches involve specific elements. Transparency has improved a some since Mario's reign but they are still not transparent or divulging.

Although most bills show that about 30% to 45% of your bill is for power consumed (based on utility, usage, provider selections, time of year, seasonal demand, etc) that amount is still padded and includes some state taxes, federal taxes, county taxes, local taxes, school taxes, broker upcharges, excise tax, permit fees, regulatory surcharges, insurance, etc paid by the generator. Many of of these same elements are padded in to the bill under the supply / wheeling portion ( for example utilities pay property taxes on wires and poles).

Some in the NY political minority indicate there are also hidden state and local energy taxes, specifically the gross receipts tax (GRT) and various regulatory assessments. These costs were notoriously obscured inside utility delivery charges rather than itemized clearly for consumers.These Gross Receipts Taxes are state tax levied on utility companies that was then passed down to consumers inside base rates rather than shown transparently as a separate line item. NY is known for Hidden Energy Surcharges and State assessments and regulatory fees embedded in utility bills that masked the true cost of government-imposed mandates on households and businesses.

It’s not power or utility improvements although they do claim that it is used for this and green energy improvements mandated by the state. This fund gets used for community improvement. Like the power authority fishing pier, boat docks, boat launches, parks, and other things.
It’s the same fund NYS is giving us out huge utility rebate checks for in October. I forget the name of it but I think it’s something like NYSERDA.

@Steal2B , never heard of a manure digester ?? Some larger dairys use them to convert the manure to methane and use it to run generators. Actually a good example is the Seneca Meadows landfill in Waterloo they run gensets off of the methane and generate electricity for the school from what I hear.

Not sure why you're asking me but yeah sure. They generate methane which is used to generate power. There are two drawbacks.

They are expensive (500% to 700% higher cost per kW than nuke power) and not cost effective on the market unless taxpayers or rate payers cough up with state mandated sales. Payback period on equipment for farms with incentives in NY is almost a decade.

If they leak methane they are a worse carbon emmiter than cow farts which would drive Bernie and AOC nuts. Ammonia leaks are dangerous (anhydrous ammonia is toxic, corrosive, and explosive).

Even though she's full of shit, for Hochul cremation makes more sense than methane conversion.

The FSA, including the illegal invaders, are Hochul's people. Plus they're the people of the downstate politicians in the NY legislature who have the big majority in Albany. So, ah fuck it. There's only one correct answer. That is to get out of NY if it's feasible for someone to do so.
