Eureka's are good tents. Bought a blemished Eureka Zeus 2 from their website a few years ago. Sold it since it held in moisture in hot weather but it was light and fast to set up. Still use my Eureka Timberlite two person tent that I bought for $15. The store pitched the tent for a couple days...
Had a duck fall at my feet a few years ago while walking my dog. Was way below zero and must have been cold & exhausted from trying to swim in the Hudson River a few yards away. Wrapped the poor girl in my coat and put her in my bed for a while to warm up. She was blind in one eye and only had...
Two years ago a bear tried entering a tent that had food stored in it but nothing drastic happened. The thought of accidentally getting between a moose & her young kinda scares me though. I've seen them locally and took photos with my first digital camera. Hate to piss one off.
Seen a mountain lion twice while camping on the east side of Lake George. I had a S&W 29 44 mag but traded it for a nice 1965 Ruger Standard 22lr semi pistol.
I've been camping alone in the mountains for almost 40yrs now. Pack of coyotes, bobcat or mountain lion screaming near you at night will definitely wake you up...lol. I tried wearing my Sig P220 45ACP in a shoulder holster but it't a pain in the ass. OK bedside in a tent though.
When you'r sleeping alone on the summit of a mountain in the Adirondacks while in a hammock, bedside, pack or ground is far away if something happens. These knives take quite a bit of force to remove from the sheath.
I have a variety of EDC folders including Gerber Magnum LST, CRKT M16-13Z, Kershaw Volt II and Kershaw Blur.
I do so much hammock camping these days but don't always like sleeping with a knife on my side or pocket. I've never considered a neck knife before but decided to check out a few. I...
When I bought mine for under $400, I don't think the shop knew what they had. Coonan was out of business. It came with one magazine and if you were lucky, there might be a mag on Gunbroker for $250 or more, very scarce.
At that time, I found a Coonan forum and one member was the former head...
I haven't found an assisted opening knife that opens by flicking the hand. The blade has to be manually started by a flipper or stud on the blade. Amazon changed it's policy and will no longer ship to my location near the Adirondacks but Walmart will.
I had the early model b, very reliable and accurate. Found it at a gun shop in Warrensburg for under $400 and after a few years, traded it for a a Sterling AR-180.
I love 1911's. First was an Auto Ordnance which I was very happy with and second was a Colt 70 series. My brother was an armorer in the Marines so he taught me tips & tweaks he used to do for officers pistols. My third was a Dan Coonan 1911 357 mag I found in a small gun shop for $350. Traded...
It was ages ago when I added black powder pistols to my permit and all I needed was a receipt with the serial number. It was done at the Washington County building back then. The nice lady, Jo-Ann would greet me with a hug, chat for a while and I always brought her a bag of Gummy Bears. She...
I had a person interested in buying the Ruger and would need it removed from my permit one way or another. A few years ago when I upgraded from my paper permit to plastic, I told the clerk that I no longer had the reproduction, Walker revolver. I had to write a short letter to the judge...
I had this same question so I asked the local sheriff's dept. Since I had it added to my permit, it became a registered pistol & I'd have to sell to a dealer or private individual with a permit.
If it wasn't on my permit, I could sell to anyone. Mine is also a Ruger Old Army.
