The MOS system has a lot of failings. I would go with a normal slide and have it milled down the road.

I will say with your requirement of possibly adding an optic, a recommendation for Glock seems to float to the top. That doesn't mean there aren't other but this is the most common milling out there. I too dream about having a G34 for a range gun.
