I looked into it earlier this year and have decided it’s not worth it. I wanted a silencer (still do), but I don’t want my department knowing what I have beyond my handguns. We get the wrong commissioner, he pulls all the letters and demands we turn them in. No recourse because you can’t just...
It’s not our decision anyway. I had to get approval to take it. It’s crazy, we can’t even shoot them to put them down.
I have a great video of this one running around AFTER he had impaled himself and ripped himself off of the fence. It’s crazy how much pain they can endure.
The rangers will allow anyone to take them, just have to do it the right way. I have his number saved for stuff like this. We’re not allowed to shoot them, so we have to call them.
He impaled himself on a fence (my kids’ school no less), got off, ran into the street and got hit. We tried to contain him in the school yard but her got out. Died on a front lawn down the block. I called the ranger and he said he was busy so just take it. Score!
I’m fairly certain I’m the only...
I worked a midnight tour last night. Driving around I saw over 60 deer, including a handful of bucks like I will never see in the legal hunting woods.
I wish the deer herd on Staten Island would just disappear. It’s such a tease.
We’re not talking about perspectives here though. I’m telling you what the law is (as are others). It’s not an interpretation matter. Straw purchases are clearly defined. The referenced scotus case was specific to the op’s question, but the simple breakdown I gave earlier applied before that...
No one just decides, the evidence must point either way. This isn’t a “slippery slope” situation. You’re making it much more complicated than it is, especially since the first examples you gave were clear cut straw purchases.
Its not gray, I don’t see how it’s “gray” at all. If you buy a gun intending to sell it, you need to be a licensed dealer or else you just committed a crime.
If you buy a gun, decide you no longer want it and decide to sell it, you did not commit a crime.
Odds of this scenario resulting in a...
You’re just making it worse. There’s no philosophical angle here. It’s very clear, and simple.
If you’re not buying the gun with the intention of keeping it, its a straw purchase.
You can buy a gun for someone else, as a gift.
You can sell a gun you originally intended to keep.
Pretty clear.
I’m confused about next week...
I haven’t hunted the late week in awhile. My brother hasn’t made it up this season though so I’m taking one more day to go with him.
I know I can hunt with my bow, but can I take the muzzleloader out with my bow/muzzleloader tag (I didn’t use it) or do I have...
I shoot 5 round groups whenever zeroing or testing new loads. I used to do 3 to save ammo, but now that I reload, it doesn't matter.
Unfortunately, my range is only 100 yards, so I'm stuck with that, but I've not had a problem with any of my rifles at NY hunting distances when "only" zeroing to...
I only know tasers. Stun guns are crap, pain compliance only, if at all. Tasers disrupt the nervous system. With a solid hit, they would fell Andre the Giant.
I took a deer with the same rifle yesterday. It was devastating with 350gn lead round nose bullets. Blew the lungs apart without doing much damage to meat. I’m impressed.
No more, not even in good fun. Tired of taking it from pieces of shit on this board and not being able to respond in kind. I’m here for hunting and some technical gun discussions. I meant it. Sorry.
They were definitely moving today. We saw 2-3 other deer that we jumped walking in. I was reluctant to go to this spot because all bow season I didn’t see a single deer there, now all of a sudden it’s overrun again!
I took a friend on his first hunting trip this morning. I shot a doe within seconds of parking my car. Didn’t even put on my hunting clothes. Dressed her, headed in, hung out in the pouring rain for awhile. Buddy says why do we go back and you show me how to butcher. I was fine with that. About...
I’m in. Likely for a pistol-sized barrel as it seems this caliber shines in that regard for hunting.
I want to suggest that if you do this, you set it up as a barrel, bolt, reloading dies package.
I'm still mildly interested in getting one! I wish I didn't have to back out last time. It just took too long and life ate up my funds. That was right around my divorce.
KY is one of the states I want to explore for a home in retirement. I’m bound to NYC due to my divorce and not ever even thinking of leaving my girls, but my mortgage is cheap so keeping this house while owning another in a cheaper area is a strong possibility. Where abouts is this?
Fyi, hint...
The wind didn't bother me too much once I got used to it, but it definitely took me a few days to be able to properly triangulate sounds that I thought were movement. It's confusing at first to pinpoint amplified sounds which would otherwise be very low.
I wore these while hunting this opening weekend. I ALWAYS wear hearing protection while shooting at the range, but never have while hunting. Man, what was I thinking? I'll never hunt without them again.
I Absolutely do. The jerkoffs are allowed to run wild but you’re not allowed to respond in kind. Better to just avoid.
I’m hoping to make some interesting venison recipes next week. I’ll keep you guys updated.
Threads like this are all I plan to participate in anymore. I’d welcome a recipe thread as well. I half-asses a bracciole yesterday, can’t wait to see how that came out.
Finished vacuum sealing today. I’m really enjoying butchering my own. Going to try jerky for the first time this year. My uncle gave me 15lbs of ground meat to play with. He doesn’t like it.
I actually have 3 deer in my freezer now and am looking for one more at least.
Catch me over on city-data if any of you are members. I use the same name. We have a slow guns and hunting section I'm hoping to help grow. Hope to see some of you there! Keep up the good fight!
I like the thread title. ;)

My daughters’ schools make a big deal out of it every day. Both of mine have been chosen to recite it over the intercom a few times over the years. They also have annual Veteran’s Day and Korean War memorial ceremonies. The school is named after a Korean War POW/KIA who has not been returned.
Now this is a great discussion.
I’ve read that human muscle tissue is not dense enough to be fully effected by hydrostatic shock, especially in skinnier people. The key to killing a human is the brain, a vital, or to make them bleed out quickly.
One animal where hydrostatic shock is very...
I sold both of my 7.5” uppers. I got enough cool flame pics out of them. They sucked for everything else.
I now have a 10.5” 9mm that I absolutely love. What I sacrificed in ballistics I make up for in magazine interchangeability and uniformity of ammo. I have thousands of rounds of +p 9mm that...
