You really only appreciate a piece of glass when you compare it side by side to its peers. The glass clarity and field of view is outstanding. S&B even requests there optics be returned to them for maintenance, very few have issue.

The Athlon Ares is a pretty good scope for the price. More magnification never hurts if your shooting paper. I personally only use more than 15x when shooting prone stages more than 500yds or from the bench.
  26. squib

    Long Range Training With .22LR

I run an Athlon Ares BTR. FFP 6-24 power on a 20moa base. 50yd zero and shoot out to 300yds. With standard velocity CCI.

    Lets talk about Primers?

Shotshell primers are another can of worms. Each brand 209 primer has a different pressure curve.

    Long Range Training With .22LR

Depends on the distances your gonna zero and shoot. If you want to zero at 25yds it rules a lot of optics due to the parallax adjustment.

    Lets talk about Primers?

In my opinion only people who are "handloaders" of metallic cartridges will notice a measurable difference in similar primers.
  31. squib

    Long Range Training With .22LR

Most likely you will want at least 20moa base. It really depends on how many "useable" MOA your optic has. For example CCI Standard velocity needs around 26.5moa of elevaton @200yds and 50moa @300yds.
  32. squib

    Long Range Training With .22LR

I zero @ 50yds. Keep in mind the amount of elevation you will need to shoot 200yds and more with .22lr. When purchasing optics and bases.

    Long Range Training With .22LR

Lucky for me my .22lr trainer likes CCI SV and Wolf Match. I use mine to practice holdovers, wind calls, and positional shooting. 300yds is a challenge with the slightest breeze.
