Am I the first deer of the season this time? ;)

I cheated lol. Hunted NC and NJ last week. I can’t make it to NY this week, but I will be out in NJ thursday morning again. I’m going to start hunting NJ again after a 10 year break. It’s so much more convenient for me. I can hunt the morning and make it to work by like 12. It’s awesome.

so this is odd. I went to the Irondequoit Town Hall to get my 9 feet of NYS Big Game license and asked about area 6a?

the nice lady said, "there is nothing for 6A"

so I look on the big state map taped to the counter and 6A and most of the North country is grayed out..... NO DEER HUNTING? WTF?

she confirmed almost all of the north country is 'grayed out' and it said on the side (gray area) NO DEER HUNTING?

so I got my BG license for 8F? then I went outside and called the Watertown Conservation Officer. he said "that is completely wrong, I don't know where they got that info, but if you look on page 25, it tells you exactly where you can hunt" So I said, I can take a antlered deer in 6A and not get in trouble, He said :' you can take a buck anywhere in the Adirondacks, just put on the report where you got it. You can take a buck in any area of the Adirondacks as long as you have a BG license and you are legal to hunt that property"

So if you go to a town hall to get a license for the North country, don't freak out if the map they have says "no deer hunting"

Got out Saturday morning and Saturday evening. Not a soul out there.

Went out Sunday evening for a couple hours taking a chance on rain. 10 minutes in my stand BANG BANG BANG BANG, fucking asshole across the street shooting in his backyard. Trying to fuck me on purpose. Douchebag.

Sure enough, 10 minutes before sunset I catch something on my right. Lose him in the leaves. By the time I grabbed my bow and stood up, he was staring me down at 30 yards. Bing. Gone. Sumbitch. He wasn't alone and I think it was 2 bucks.

LMAO, my neighbor had his panties in a wad yesterday because we burned a couple thousand rounds. Said we are scaring all da deers. Just for being an ass I mixed up 2 pounds of tannerite and touched it off. Fucking tell me what I can and can't do on my land, wait until his ass comes over asking if he can go recover another gut shot deer back there.

You should have told him that, invited him to practice shooting/working on his accuracy so he didn't have to chase his horribly shot deer over onto your property anymore.

Do I need a deer call for rifle season? Never used one, but I hardly see any pointy looking mf's over where I'm sitting, I know they exist. First year, I saw one running above me, chasing a doe real quick. Haven't seen one since.

The first week or so is usually the end of the rut. You could probably use a call then. Much past that, it won't do much good.

ETA: I'm not an expert, just my general take on the timing of things.

Went out Saturday. Weather was fking amazing. Saw shit balls of deer under my stand but was not in a huge hurry. Waiting on a larger buck but want to get a doe first.

The guy who’s land I am at is really a treat and I do not take it for granted.

Got #2 today in NJ. A nice doe. I saw 5 deer. It was a hell of a tracking job to find this one, even though she really didn’t go too far. She went into very thick stuff so it was hard not to keep getting turned around. Then the drag out was about 3/4 of a mile!

Well worth it though.

Holy shat you paid $500+ for a sight? Integrated rangefinder is very nice, though. Only just heard about this. I was wondering when they would finally have a range finder integrated into a sight with auto adjustment--exactly what this thing does.

I researched it heavily before purchasing and got it on sale (it’s originally $799) with birthday money. I have generous in-laws. ;)

It is a major game changer. Once I had it sighted in I was just shooting from random distances. Amazing! And that’s not even taking into account the angle adjustment it does for when I am in the tree stand.

Unfortunately nothing was moving today but I will be back at it Tuesday and then all weekend after that.

For me anyone know where best places are for Fall Turkey Hunting in WMU 8? Im in honoeye and went to naples a long time ago. Been hunting at inlaws last few years but this hear my BIL does not want us into his land area as hes trying to not disrupt the deer this year.....My other BIL his brother gathers firewood in there and did last year at this time and our deer season sucked! so this year no one allowed into the lands till opening day of gun. hehehehe
IM looking to stay here for saturdays opening day of Gobble Gobble...............Ive tried the honeoye area off of 20a and that was a bust when scouting earlier this fall. Also when looking for turkey I search out habitats and forget about the WATER element and think that has caused me the NO LUCK situations in scouting. wonder were other people go and have seen Flocks?? Thanks in advance...I dont know why I get such a hard on for Turkey but I do!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After my post I watched several videos about it. Really looks like a freaking amazing sight. Increases visibility, too, without even pins in the way at all.

A guy took me once to a spot maybe 20 min south of the city on the highway down toward letchworth. I can't quite recall the name, I think it was west of the highway then another several minutes. We didn't see squat, but he said he's hunted it for years and it's good. When you get in there is a fairly long gravel road and you can park pretty much wherever.

I get your BIL's concern. The guy's land I hunt at I feel like my bow hunting does not substantially disrupt the deer, but partly this is because he also goes for walks there so the deer are used to it, possibly.

NO I get his concern too. he also asked us all last year to not let small deer go and asked that no one pop a yearling or something ccrazy... so only above 4 pts for a few years now 6pt and over........ I get that...hes tryin to manage his land but dammit I wanna turkey!! hehehehehehe

hes the kind of hunter too that does not like sitting..he likes doing drives!! I agree with most of it...I just wanna turkey....I am gonna try naples and hemlock lake areas......No real flat open areas at hemlock all hilly so I may be better in naples...that part is NWTF managed area too.....so that should be good.
