They don't point real guns at eachother in movies. Blanks can kill you. They use angles and movie tricks to make it look that like they are shooting eachother. They also use clear bulletproof panels between actors and the crew, even with blanks , sometimes using remote cameras. After the Lee incident guns are supposed to be check between shots and also test fired into sand buckets before handing them to actors to be Ayre there is no obstruction. If a gun is up against someone's head it's fake and cgi may be used for effects.
This is clearly a series of events disregarding all gun safety and on set rules put in place that ended in a tragedy.

But if you don’t know that it’s a real gun…I couldn’t tell this one was fake until Bullet Tooth Tony pointed it out.

This has limited relevance to a movie set. There are thousands of movies with people pointing guns at other people. The reason it is usually very safe is because they take extra precautions the rest of us don’t have.

Valid point, but theres no way he shouldn't have checked that gun if they were using it for target practice recently, It was a real gun , and in no way should he have fired it at the crew.

Hollywood weapons expert Bryan Carpenter talked to the Post and stressed that the No. 1 rule for prop firearms is: “Loaded or unloaded, a weapon never gets pointed at another human being.”

He noted that rules of gun safety apply even on a movie set, where “you never let the muzzle of a weapon cover something you don’t intend to destroy.”

Baldwin tried to make it appear like it was an accident, but further investigation revealed it was anything but. According to the Los Angeles Times:

Hours before actor Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer on the New Mexico set of “Rust” with a prop gun, a half-dozen camera crew workers walked off the set to protest working conditions.

The camera operators and their assistants were frustrated by the conditions surrounding the low-budget film, including complaints about long hours, long commutes, and collecting their paychecks, according to three people familiar with the matter who were not authorized to comment,

Safety protocols standards in the industry, including gun inspections, were not strictly followed on the “Rust” set near Santa Fe, the sources said. They said at least one of the camera operators complained last weekend to a production manager about gun safety on the set.

When Baldwin was arrested at his hotel, he was found with over 1,000 images of child pornography on his phone and laptop. He faces multiple felony charges.

I haven't been able to find any confirmation of this outside that one article you posted.

If it's real, and being covered up to that magnitude we are worse off than I thought.

But according to a knowledgeable production source, Hutchins’ death was avoidable, as they told The Daily Beast that within the past week there had been at least two previous incidents of firearms being misfired on set. The Los Angeles Times reported there was an additional misfiring the previous week.

“They had two negligent discharges on the same set, on the same day and still had jobs,” the source told The Daily Beast, clarifying same-day misfirings occurred on Saturday. “They had struck out twice and were given a third opportunity.”

Alec Baldwin's 'Rust' Movie Set Reportedly Plagued With Multiple Firearm Mishaps, Safety Protocols 'All But Ignored' - The Truth About Guns

More and more information keeps coming to the surface in the aftermath of actor/producer Alec Baldwin shooting and killing the director of photography on the set of his new movie Rust, and wounding the director at the same time. Reports say that the Baldwin production cut corners, had multiple...

The gun was one of three that the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez, had set on a cart outside the wooden structure where a scene was being acted, according to the records. Assistant director Dave Halls grabbed the gun from the cart and brought it inside to Baldwin, unaware that it was loaded with live rounds, a detective wrote in the search warrant application.

Three people failed to clear the gun after several ND's

involuntary manslaughter, which New Mexico law defines (in the context of this case) as an unlawful killing committed “in the commission of a lawful act which might produce death … without due caution and circumspection.”

There was an apparent distinct lack of training and professionalism among this movie production cast and crew.

If you reviewed the firearms training received by principle actors in the "John Wick" movies, you'd see real training. Those actors could shoot safely and were able to handle reloads and malfunctions. I'm sure that Reeves always knew the status of his firearm. Heck...in one of the John Wick movies when Reeves was firing blanks, he had a misfire and actually fluidly performed a tap-rack.

It doesn't matter what someone tells you is the status of a firearm that they hand to you. If you are on the range, at a course, or are an actor in a scene with firearms, you must personally verify the status of that firearm.

In this case, it appears that lack of training killed an innocent woman.

We call it a car accident if you hit a tree whether it was due to reckless driving, or a deer jumping out from a hedge.

One is negligent and the other isn't, but both are accidents.

So this Baldwin guy accidentally shot someone, but it wasn't an accident. Okay.
