I have a modest collection going. Just came into some semi-rare Australian & UK ammo boxes. (Love the Eley 22 Short Wadcutters).. Top left are UK, the Hy-Score subsonic is Aussie and the “22 Longo” is Brazilian. Im sure we’ve all at one point in our youth had a German red round tin of the RWS ”Acorns” or in my case Dynamit-Nobel CB Caps spire point 22’s without powder. These things still embed well into a 2x4 so they’re no joke. Have a small center fire lot going too. Mostly old school Remington, Winchester boxes of 30-40 Krag, etc..also have a bunch of USGI brown cardboard 30 Carbine, M2 Ball, 45 Ball, etc from WW1 & WW2 eras.

I find them "neat" and interesting, but I do not collect them, however a very close friend does, so I give them to him whenever I happen into one.
Anyone play the guessing game as to how old they are by the color, design, Brand, etc.?

I've used Wards auction house to value some , they don't really give info on age, I have found some age related info here and there but nothing dedicated to it.
I'm going to have to get some pics and post em up!

I do not own the early Calvary Nagant. I do like it, though.
The other pics are things I own, though some are the pics the Seller used on eBay or GunBroker rather than my own.
The small Nickeled Revolver is from Massachusetts (I forget the name). It was an inexpensive pistol in its time. Most have not survived fully functional, though this one did. I bought it because, to me, it just has a funky-cool look to it.

Of course I would love a Luger or a Broom Handle Mauser, but these items of mine are far more affordable and give me pleasure.
This one is rare.
It's much larger than you might think, shoots .455 Cartridges. Almost 1/2 inch !
But BP and a short cartridge and low velocity.

If you ever come across a Revelation brand .30-30 box let me know. That was Western Auto's store brand. A friend has an old Revelation(Marlin) .30-30 and is always looking for the ammo box.
Obviously none of these are meant to be fired.
All antique and Black Powder, except the Nagant which although smokeless, uses bizarre cartridges that are very hard to find.
Many antiques were very safe when new, but a century has created altered grain structures, and it is entirely possible they will burst, even when loaded with proper powder.
And when an idiot loads them with smokeless - disaster for all concerned.

I got everything years ago from gun shops and web sites, and I've actually stopped collecting them entirely.
Odd, but I don't recall ever visiting a Gun Show.
I enjoy my small collection, but the scratch has been itched.
I am anxious to show off my .38 Merwin Hulbert with highly engraved and personalized "White" handles.
It was clearly a presentation piece, possibly gifted to a Police Chief upon retirement.
I do have it, padlocked, under a huge pile of other things.

When you open a Merwin Hulbert, all the fired cartridges fall out.
