Congestion pricing: will this be the straw?

Saltwater60 · Mar 30, 2021

Increasing taxes and cost is never the answer. Increasing efficiency and reducing costs is always the way to go. People will leave and it will always be because of the weather not asshole politicians enacting asshole laws and fees.

"Congestion pricing is a method in which a surcharge is added for services during peak in-demand hours. Supporters say that it is a proven method that reduces traffic, enhances public transportation and improves air quality since there are less vehicles on the road. The congestion pricing proposal in New York City would manage Midtown traffic congestion using tolls. In his statement, Cuomo said that congestion pricing "will play a critical role as New York and the nation begin to recover from the pandemic and build back stronger and better than before."

That's a fancy phrase for Socialist Control and Manipulation.

Soon the only people left in NYC will be the middle class that thinks they can’t afford to leave, the lower income folks who actually can’t, and the welfare leeches who won’t because everything is provided for them.

I’m taking the ferry to Eastern Suffolk to visit my folks now. Fuck driving through that mess.

The free bridges will be tolled with plate readers, everyone pays except those who don't. Big problem even on the already tolled crossings. People who never use a bridge or tunnel still pay when registering a vehicle in NY! 9-11 taxes added per gallon of gasoline 20 years ago are still there... Not sure what it's paying for... And the POTUS want $4 Trillion now for economic stimuli... Started at $2 Trillion and it's grown since and will continue to grow without restraint!

This entire country is heading into a deep shit bag of trouble with the progressive liberal agenda at the helm? Just look at any of your Progressive Liberal State and Local municipalities... They provide the Looking Glass to the future!

good news, NYC will have the cleanest air of any large city in the country ~~~~ because NO ONE WILL BE LIVING THERE! fucking morons?

guess what else, service industries will be charging a LOT MORE to work on your Heating/cooling, Plumbing, Electrical systems in the city.

Fools, just stupid

pjzwtl · Mar 30, 2021

It will be green as hell to with all those trees popping up through the empt real estate

Blimey · Mar 30, 2021

Let's see . . .

90% of highly paid Manhattan officeworkers now telecommuting

Rampant and growing crime and homelessness on every corner

Failing city services like trash pickup and delayed and truly unsafe subways

Massive new tax increases on high earners coming from Albany

Remaining businesses like JetBlue leaving or threatening to leave the city

And now:

Congestion pricing on fast track to going forward

IMHO, congestion pricing will:

Charge the remaining high income commuters who now drive more money to come in the city, increasing cost and inconvenience for them

Increase the cost of taxis and Ubers

Increase the cost of delivering goods and services in the Manhattan, pushing up prices in stores and restaurants

What could go wrong?

Let. It. Burn.

It was fun to visit, but at no point during my nearly decade working everywhere from Midtown to Soho did I ever have the illusion it wasn't a cesspool.

Maybe it was the homeless guy who always wore the same sweat pants every day, as he would piss himself daily in grand central in the subway. (You could smell him from the moment you hit the stairs or the tunnel past Rite-Aid on the way down there .. it was that strong.)

Or maybe it was the time I saw a guy pull his dick out randomly in the middle of the street and take a piss right outside of Wall St -- in the middle of the street.

Or maybe it's the self absorbed attitude of everyone down there.

Regardless, I'm done with being down there. I took the paycut to avoid the city. I intend to never go back if I can afford to.

It doesn’t matter what tax scheme they devise.

They all remove money from the productive and reward the non productive.

They underlying conceit of the socialists is that with the right scheme they can somehow make this "fair".

You can't.

All you can do is punish productivity and reward consumption, no matter how you structure your taxes.

"Escape from NY" was a movie that is becoming reality.

When I hear "congestion pricing", the only thing that comes to mind is discounting fees during off-peak times in an effort to encourage stable usage throughout the day.

The NYS Nazis that monitor this forum just had their minds blown

This has been the blueprint for this state as long as I can remember. Raise taxes so high people look for greener pastures. Tax the remaining citizens to make up for the loss. Make the exodus grow at an exponential rate. Raise and repeat. Add to it a climate and laws unfriendly to growth, freedom, and accepted common sense to sweeten the deal. Raise and repeat.

These morons stand there and slam their hand in the door again and again with a smile on their faces. The only thing dumber are the fucktards that keep voting them in again, and again, and again. Common sense and basic reasoning skills are absent from the decision making formula. Then, when the shit gets really thick, the feds bail them out and enable the lunacy to go on in perpetuity.
