The time we lived in Montana my kids had two school delays…never for snow. Once an eagle dropped a baby deer on the power lines and the other was a bull moose on the playground. Montana things…
Maybe the most unpredictable animals ive ever dealt with. Ive seen very docile moose who allow people to pet them. And ive seen the "destroy on sight" moose.
Put it this way, im always more wary when I see fresh moose prints than fresh bear prints. Bears can be reasoned with somewhat, moose are a crap shoot, and usually very angry.

All of my pistols are 9mm, I’ve been needing and meaning to get a .45 or something similar for the past year or so… seems like the 9 will basically be carrying a rock and you throw the rock and say “please stop” haha
Thinking, 41 mag, 44, 454, something that you can touch off fast accurately, if man can stab you from 8 steps away faster than you can pull, aim, fire a bear will be there even faster and with more stabby items and out weighs you at least 2-1.

Yea, polar bears are one of the few animals left that actually view humans as prey and not just a threat to be dealt with.
Even Grizzlies don't immediately think "lunch" when they see you. They'll kill you quick enough if they run into you, but they won't actively track you down for food the way polar bears will.

I've got a .35 caliber Air Rifle suitable for hunting big game: ballistics are about the same for a .38 special...think about it.

My folks have alot of bears around them in the Hunter Mountain area, and I have them near me too. I just went online to buy some bear spray and amazon wont ship it here (I already figured that, but wanted to try).
Guess the state would rather me use lethal over non lethal force against wild animals.

Our national parks are an absolute treasure.
If you're driving maybe make a slight detour here or there and quickly just "look" at places like badlands, Rushmore, deadwood, teddy Roosevelt park, custer state park, devils Tower etc. I don't know exactly what is on your route but there will definitely be things that are worth a couple hours detour to be able to say that you saw them.
On your itinerary you also left off Wisconsin, you will need to drive through there to get to Minnesota.
If you are not sure, and don't want any hassle, follow federal transportation law, keep locked and inaccessible from driver, and with ammo separate and only make necessary stops. (Gas, bathroom, food) No sight seeing in non friendly states. Try to route plan ahead of time to gas up and pee break before you hit an unfriendly state to avoid having to stop if possible. Before you leave on your trip, verify that all your lights and directionals work. Use them. Use the cruise control to avoid accidentally speeding and getting pulled over. Follow all traffic laws, only make necessary stops and follow federal laws and you will be fine.

What about duty to inform states?
First of all, it's PAST, not PASSED.
PAST refers to a time prior to the present or is used to express previous experiences or activities. It has other closely related meanings as well. "He worked as a sailor in years past" "Past President" etc.
PASSED refers to the action of overtaking, transferring, or the approval of an action. It too has several other closely related meanings. "He passed the basket to her." "The motorcycle passed the slow-ass camping in the left lane." "The motion passed." etc.
The word you should have used is some form of OVERLOOKED. It would have been much more appropriate.
Next, I wish to point out that it has nothing to do with "busting" you. I fully realize that they quit teaching geography many years ago. I also understand that English and Grammar are no longer taught well.
