Many state laws have a requirement for the items to be federally registered.
AZ law for instance prohibits suppressors, but exempts any that are registered in the NFRTR (aka NFA registry).
So, if I went and bought another suppressor using the new ruling to avoid another form 4, it's not clear it would be legal to possess.

If an item is no longer "Class III" under Federal Law, is it still regulated by State standards based upon a now defunct Federal Law?

I don't expect NYS will allow anything outside of those items LEO's have procured, but a change in the Governor and especially the Right retaking the Legislature would throw it all into a tailspin.

Yes. The State can apply their own definition and restrictions. Much like the did in the middle of the night making many shotguns State NFA items with no phased period or grandfather clause. The day after the law was passed a large group became felons overnight. Until that law if found to be Unconstitutional it stands.

lol I hear you. My question is where. Any major city (density vote) is being attacked by this crap by funded groups. TN; look at their assembly, FL; the influx of people going there are from the Commie influx who want things brought toward where they just left, TX; take a close look at Houston and Austin. The current “Safe” places are Midwest who haven’t been invaded yet.

You should definitely try it.
Walking into a gun shop here is a very different experience.
They'll have a display of suppressors, occasionally a belt fed rifle for sale, really nice stuff.
And a gun show is completely different than NY.
Actually mostly guns, and mostly modern here.
Very different than the NY T-shirt and knife show with the occasional antique gun.

If this is accurate, in the green states that are treating the silencers as just firearms (4473), one could simply make their own. I'm in PA and made all of mine via form 4. Just something to keep in mind if they ever drop completely off NFA rules.

Also, it's not just silencers. It's SBRs and SBSs as well.
So those people can just turn an old 870 into a shockwave clone in their garage quick if they want.
I really think the barrel swap to the 10.4 is in the near future for my PS90.
Factory short barrel runs a bit over $200 is all.
