Government Shutdown

[Bigfoot]

"Vice President JD Vance joins House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) and does not mince words. "I think we are headed into a shutdown because the Democrats won't do the right thing," he says. A partial government shutdown would begin at 11:59:59 p.m. Tuesday if no agreement is reached."

Do it!
It won't change people's opinions. Those who get their "news" from CNN/ABC/etc. are already saying that Trump is going to shut down the government as part of his plan to destroy it and become a dictator. They refuse to admit that it is the Democrats (this time) that are going to end up shutting things down.

The problem is many people think health care and keeping it as is or cheap is worth fighting for. This will keep the republicans cut to that in place. I get both sides but at some point people have to do more for themselves and not less. You can’t simply have your handout to the government day after day and year after year. I get there are circumstances where some of this is unavoidable but most people are just too lazy to work.
I know people who truly need help though and they should be able to get it if that’s the case. I’m not saying the republicans are taking that away but that’s what the democrats are stating they are doing and some believe it.
On track I do hope the government shutdown and I hope it goes on for months. I hope the truth comes out as to why this is important and the democrats come out smelling like the pig crap they are.

The dems want $1.5 trillion restored, to refund illegal alien health care, and give them more rent money.

Shut it down.........................do it.

[RedBreast21]

Yeah shut it down. Enough with the fear mongering crap. Then end CR's. All they are is well timed political footballs. End them. Lock in a budget every year.

[Shadow rider]

Yes, a yearly budget that is BALANCED! CRs do nothing more than kick the can further down the road.
Shutting it down does nothing but give the "non-essentials" more vacation days! Yeah, pay is deferred (delayed), but hey...who doesn't want a few unexpected days off?

[FP1201]

Seen it before, several times, doesn't mean Jack Shit, in fact shut the motherfucker down and keep it down for a month or two, work on Congressional replacements while we're at it.

If the president is a Democrat and the government shuts down its always the fault of the Republicans in congress.
If the president is a republican and the government shuts down its always the fault of the president.

That's the way the press frames it, every single time.

This time I am confused. Don't the Republicans control both houses of congress? If they simply voted on a party line there won't be a shutdown. Or am I missing something?

Need super majority .

Beat solution is for the Republicans in congress to fund only the parts that need to be funded, and do them separately one at a time.

Fund social security with a bill (I know it gets paid for in a "shutdown", but this is about the optics). And *only* social security with that bill.

Force the democrats to vote against that single topic bill if they want to play the shutdown game.

Then do it again, one topic at a time for every budget item the American taxpayers actually care about.

No more "all or nothing" budgets.

I'm picturing the Apollo 13 astronauts voting against powering the CO2 scrubbers unless they can microwave a hotpocket.

Government shuts down after Congress deadlocks on spending deal

The federal government is entering a partial shutdown after Senate Democrats rebelled against a short-term spending bill.

Whoo Hoo! A few days of not wasting tax payer money. If I didn't hear it on the radio, I would never be aware that the gov shut down. As always, virtually no one can tell it's happening- except the gov workers getting free paid vacation.

To pass a budget? I didn't know that. Seems odd.

If it's closed. It can't spend money

Win win

Uhhh, no, they actually still spend money regardless of a shutdown. Its just a little lesser amount getting spent during the shutdown. Certain things are still getting paid.

[CNYJohn]

It ain't closed down enough yet

Yes. But 60 votes are needed to pass the bill.

I saw a funny video where a bunch of the Democrats were crying that a government shutdown would hurt the American people back when they were in power under biden, now that it's Trump they're all changing their tune. They are such a bunch of hypocrites they can't be taken seriously.

My son is furloughed. He was a Presidential Fellow. The program is to train the future management of Federal Agencies.

When we were "shut down" there were still a few of us that were deemed "essential" and had to come in everyday (Mission Essential) everyone was back paid without lapses in Insurance, and if you were out on either Sick or Personal Leave you were not paid until after .gov was back up and running. Couple times I took off and went on vacation, and if they called me back in before I was back I could just take leave.

They all cry about "hurting the People" well that's bullshit: they don't give a fuck about anything other than Party optics which they started right away...I'll wager that if you walked down the street and asked the first ten people you encounter if they're care or are concerned that "the Government" is shut down, not more than one would give a shit.
Shithead schumer want to play fuck-fuck games to blame on the Republicans in the next election...I can't understand why that miserable old motherfucker won't just go away.

Tuesday night my mom was practically crying as she stated "be ready to lose a lot of money. The Stock Market is going to crash thanks to Trump shutting down the government. He really is a dictator!".

Wednesday: My IRAs went from $227k to $231k.

The only people who are aware the .gov shut down and are upset about it are the ones drinking the CNN koolaid.
