None of this makes sense. There must be far more to the story.

Probably correct but the fact remains unless he entered or attempted to enter this man’s home he can’t shoot him unless he was threatened in some other manner. Kind of odd that this man is so old and an FFL and hasn’t done anything like this in the past.
I agree there is likely more to this story and of course it made the news with him being an FFL and all. Is that part of the story or thrown into show how gun owners are bad??

Of course it's thrown in to show how gun owners are bad. His being an FFL is irrelevant to the story. I wonder if alcohol was involved because I can't understand how asking for directions results in a shooting.

I don't comment much on this type of incident. I guess I must be bored and am willing to stretch my neck on the block .
If the article is accurate I cannot fathom how "more to the story" can exonerate the shooter.
Copy and paste from the article: "Reilly told the victim to get off his property before firing multiple shots at the victim as he attempted to leave in his vehicle, striking the victim once in the back, causing serious physical injuries".
Information in that sentence tells me that the victim was told to get off the property and he complied. Also states he was attempting to leave IN HIS VEHICLE. He was in his car! Also says he was wounded in the back. Wounded in the back while in his vehicle and attempting to leave. Multiple shots fired! Maybe the shooter was under the influence of something or maybe he is simply a irresponsible ass who owns firearms.

I doubt there are enough missing pieces that would make this seem justified.

But with what we have it's just plain incomprehensible.

To continue the speculation....

Valerie Drive is a small dead end street in a high end neighborhood. The "delivery driver" is a real moron if he couldn't find his way on a road that is a couple of hundred yards long, where all the houses are well marked with street numbers. Map below.

I'm going to bet the purple tie mafia will find out the "delivery driver" didn't have an order on that street, and will give that discovery little to no attention. I would further bet that the "delivery driver" was casing the neighborhood, and either threatened the shooter, pointed a weapon at the shooter, or made a motion as if pointing a weapon at the shooter.

While I see your point it doesn’t mean that this is true or that’s all there is to the story. The delivery driver could have been using DoorDash as a front to see who was home and who wasn’t. This has happened before. Is he even a real DoorDash delivery driver. This guy could have rang the doorbell and when no one was home entered this man’s house burglarizing it making it perfectly acceptable to shoot him in his defense. Now if the story is true and he was fleeing then no he cannot. As you mentioned you can’t just shoot someone for coming on your property asking for directions.
Could the home owner be fed up and deranged yep? But him being his age and being an FFL says contrary to that. His FGL would have been pulled for any minor criminal incident in NYS from what I know. Seems a bit odd to me but people do snap at times.

We have the same analysis. I didn’t go as far as you but I’m betting the same. I’m betting you’ll never hear more about this as a result.

I drove by that neighborhood when I left my office this morning. As I was leaving, a van from ABC News out of NYC was pulling in.

We might hear a little bit more about this.

Reportedly, his battery died while making a delivery, hence being lost as per the NYSP. The driver also reportedly asked for directions from other homes BEFORE coming to this guy's house. As he was leaving in his vehicle once told to 'get off my property', he was shot once in the back per most 'news' sources.

Bad, really bad ...

If that’s the case it is bad and should have never happened. however if his battery died you would think his cell phone would still be working and he would call someone for help. Everyone has cell phones these days. I would not go knock on someone’s door for directions and if his car battery died was he going to walk there?

What battery died?
In his car? Then how did he restart it to leave the premises. And why turn the car off. Even modern tech-heavy cars still run with a dead battery as long as the alternator still works.
If it was his cell phone battery that died, then how would he be able to call anyone for help? (and doesn't he keep a charging cord in his car like just about every other person on the planet?).

I agree that I wouldn't go knocking on random people's doors, but I'm an anti-social asshole.

Agreed. Pshift posted that his car battery reportedly died. I had the same questions as you. Something is not adding up. Not sure your cell phone and car battery would die the same day and time. It’s never happened to me or anyone I know. I’ve never knocked on anyone’s door for directions. Even without cell service the map still shows on your phone so you can navigate to where you want to go generally and then get cell reception to get you to your end point.

My brother used to deliver pizzas for Dominos. At that time, Dominos advertised "get your pizza in 30 minutes or it's free". He said he often would deliver a pizza to a house where someone had turned off all the lights in the house and took the numbers off the mailbox and house. In fact one time the house and the next five houses had no numbers and no lights.
Just saying delivering pizza is a dangerous profession...

I’m not surprised. I got threatened with a rifle in semi rural Tioga county NY while I was working for UPS. You know, the guys with the big brown vans with their logo four fucking feet high in reflective material on the side? The guys who are covered in the same color clothing from head to foot and typically deliver packages… dumbass said to me “what are you doing here? This is private property”.

An awful lot of people are just plain fucking stupid, there’s no sugar coating it. Why the fuck do you think the UPS truck is at your house, in broad daylight, carrying boxes to your porch?

Yes, I am not addressing the chance that doordash dude was casing the area. Could be that, but lots of perfectly legit delivery folks have been threatened with firearms, likely more than use it as a cover story.

Perhaps the home owner was practicing moves from the bs movie, Wanted.
You know where you throw the bullets around objects; how else can you hit someone in the back when they are seated in a car.
Throw around the tree, into the open car window, then between the seat into his back; difficult but with practice?

On News12: police investigators states the doordash driver was asking people in the area for direction because his app didn’t work. (Could be a bad signal?)
I understand the theory that he could be casing the area to rob it. But I would imagine the cops would have checked the doordash driver’s story.. investgators can simply contact doordash to confirm if the driver had a delivery in the area and who the delivery was for. Imo, I think Reilly is in a lot of trouble.

Not the moments that mean anything. Sure he went and knocked on a neighbors door and said his cell phone was dead but was it? Seems to be this guy was a morons with what we know. Of course they are jumping to he shot him because he was black. Funny the guy is only being charged with assault as well. A bit odd to me but there are crazies out there
