I have all the shooting area I need. From a 100 yard "pistol" range in the yard, to a 1000+ yard perfectly level unused corn field.
But I saw an old friend the other day, and agreed to go to a local range he belongs to, so we went yesterday.
While we were there I met a few shooters. There was one guy who most people were kind of ignoring.
He had one handgun, a 6 inch S&W 686. After most of the people left, he gradually moved closer to us.
He started talking to us, he was friendly. Then my friend asked what kind of holster he uses for his 686. The guy says, "no need for a holster". Ok, cool, you do you fella.
I had 6 handguns with me. I was firing my usual carry gun, a gen 1 Shield 9mm I bought in 2014. Its just a great gun.
My friend was firing his Sig 365 9mm, which is one of his carry guns.
The stranger walks over and casually says, "you guys ever shoot real guns, with real bullets?"
I said, "excuse me".
He says, "just messin with ya, I just never seen the advantage to a tiny lady gun".
I had absolutely nothing to say to this guy, but, "they are great for up close self defense and concealing" or something like that just spewed from my mouth.
He says, "who have you pissed off enough to need self defense?"
I said, "could you move down a couple spots".
There were 10 lanes at this outdoor pistol range. We were in #2, this guy decided to use #3. There was nobody there except us and him.
He says, "I suppose you have a shotgun under your bed for the invisible bad guys breaking in your house too, huh?"
We ignored him. He then says, "you know you're much more likely to be attacked by a shark than need a gun for self defense".
My friend couldn't resist, so he said, "if we get attacked by a shark 400 miles from an ocean, we have other things to worry about"...or something like that.
I was a good boy, I kept my mouth shut, and eventually the guy left. With the amount of self defense knowledge and statistics in my brain I could have destroyed this Fudd, but I resisted. Two guys got out of a truck that had pulled in about 15 minutes before the guy left.
One of the guys says, "I was hoping he was going to leave soon".
These two guys had several handguns, a couple AR-15s, and a Mini 14. Both were carrying small 9mm handguns.
