They all break when you try to screw on them.

My son and I assembled a lower last night .
Mostly to clean up my bench area and show him the internals of the thing.
The only two things that took time were the bolt release roll pin and the trigger pin. We had not tools to other than tweezers for small parts, a brass hammer and piece of rod from something or other used as a punch.
I got an assembled upper from a member here as it was cheaper than what I could have bought the parts for and had good reviews.
A buddy is talking about assembling one. I will refer him to this thread for suggestions in parts selection as there is so much out there.
It was a good bonding moment between the kid and I . My hands shake so much from meds that I was of little help plus he can now say he put one together.

Taught both of mine to build their own guns at an early age.

Did my sons AR 10 with him, top to bottom. Everything worked like a fine tuned watch, he was stoked, I thought the whole thing was pretty cool!

My daughter wants me to build one with her.
So, I have ordered the Lower.
The handguards, the BCG.
A barrel.
The upper.
I ordered an Eotech and a Vortex magnifier.
Gas Tube.

Brands baby, what'd ya get?
Having a tough time figuring out which lower/upper parts kit to order....
So many to choose from, not sure if it makes that much difference?
Ranging in prices from $20 all the way through the roof!

I wouldn't pay more than $20 for an upper parts kit and unless the FCG was something special, I wouldn't pay more than $50-ish for an lpk, especially if you want to do a different FCG.

I mean, they are all supposed to be mil spec and be interchangable, so in most cases, you are really paying for a brand name. But I guess there are some differences in quality.

If you're dropping in an aftermarket trigger, parts is parts.
I got this for like 40 bucks.
I will say, I like Strike Industries dust cover as its spring loaded and just pops right in- but I'm lazy.

As of right now, everything is on order minus the muzzle device. Not sure which to go for.
There is a device from Odin works that i like... ODIN Works ATLAS
All told, $545, without the optics.

Muzzle devices for 223 are nearly ornimental
Yeah, I know. My White AR has nothing. No threads, no device. I.m gonna wait to see how it turns out built, I may just cap it off.

Odin Works makes some really nice stuff. They make a great adjustable gas block. As far as muzzle brakes being ornamental,,,,they worked great on my guns especially on the low recoil 204. It made follow up shots while looking through the glass much easier when whacking chucks.
But they are noisy and I took them all off my guns and put on linear muzzle brakes which directs all the sound forward but they dont work like a muzzle brake should. They are cheap though,,,like 40 bucks from Joebobs
Only loud muzzle brake I have left is on my 6 creedmoor and I just decided to wear electronic muffs while hunting with it

I want all the ar15s.
All the ar10s.
All the ammo.
Maybe even an m1a.
I'd really like an FAL.
Seriously, let any one of us know if you need anything.

Just bought one of these fake muzzle brakes. Notice that it has alredy been drilled so pinning to barrel should be easy.

In the last year I have payed enough in shipping to buy a high end AR and enough ammo to ride it out.

Received the hand guards today. Got updates on three other orders from different vendors, three shipments will be here Saturday.
After 3 days of reorganization I almost have my reloading/ gun working room back. I still have to drill out the gas port. The one in it is .073 I am going to make it .096 to be sure it gets enough gas.
