This gets uglier by the day, There are no good outcomes here.

Israel invades and destroys Hamas permanently at heavy cost of lives . A more radical group forms and fills the vacuum.

Israel, sits back and bombs them, enraging the enemy and the entire Mideast beyond reason . and is pressured to stop , doesn't solve the problem.

Isreal invades and occupies the entire strip and is faced with a forever guerrilla war costing them a fortune.

Even the complete genocide of Palestinians will Isolate Israel from the world for decades.

There is no solving this problem .

The complete genocide of palestinians will solve the problem. On the surface all the arab nations will condemn Israel and isolate the country for a time. But secretly they will be glad to be rid of the palestinians, particularly as they were the pawns of the shia muslims in Iran. Most of the rest of the middle east are sunni muslims. (The antagonism between sunni and shia is real and goes back to the origins of islam).

It will be very ugly but that is the only way to solve this problem. I don't think the israelis have the stomach for it even after the latest terrorist attack.

Remember the US in world war 2 purposely bombed cities to inflict civilian damages (as churchill said - to "dehouse them"). We killed hundreds of thousands of german and japanese civilians during the course of the war.

I would expect US Special Ops that specialize in hostage recovery to be involved in rescuing American hostages.

Big Money/Interests trump any hostage recovery under this regime as we have seen with the Afganistan withdraw.

I read something earlier today saying Israel doesn't want US troops on the ground.
