A sort of cause for you to believe that they probably committed a crime. That way you aren't just out attesting people to let the courts sort it out, and if you still are, whoops, you are on the hook now.

You want to put someone's life on the line? Be damn well sure you are right.

It wouldn’t work. Two things would happen. Cops won’t make arrests unless they personally saw it . Or because they have a reason to make sure a person who was arrested, gets convicted, they will not look or some will hide/not bring forward exculpatory evidence that might free that possibly innocent person .
Cops aren’t supposed to care if the person is convicted or not.

And there was a cultural shift back to celebrating victimhood that is the root cause of our problems now, and you can't arrest your way out of it.

Wrong . Absolutely wrong . It was arrests for small things . Broken windows theory policing .It is exactly how NYC brought down their crime in the 1990s. Want further proof. The NYC transit police started broken windows . The subway was literally dramatically safer than the streets of NYC after it was started . It was not a cultural shift of the general public but of police departments that brought down the crime . Then the public cultural shift followed .

It is a fact . Why the sudden uptake in crime in specific areas and not others . Bail reform yes but look at what laws were decriminalized by those woke DAs too. The arrests for the small things aren’t being made , crime soars .

Crime became socially unacceptable.

That's it. That's the whole reason.

Right now the media and others have offered excuses for it, so in some subcultures it's not considered "bad" as long as the victims are rich or white.

Want to fix it ? You need to change the culture in those areas. Once it's no longer acceptable to assault and steal, then it will stop.

As long as the people in those neighborhoods feel that the world owes them, and they have a right to take it because someone who looked like them decades ago got a raw deal, the crime will continue. No matter how many arrests you make.

"Broken windows" just turns you into an occupying force and reinforces the victim and entitlement mentality.

I get that when you're a hammer everything looks like a nail, but policing has a very specific function in society, and it isn't what you think it is.
