Of course he added a deputy mayor or two as well. And of course, there is no cutting in his budget....
Is that true? I find it hard to believe any city in this state hasn't had a tax increase in 20 years.Good. They largely haven’t had a tax increase over the past 20 years outside of last year. Instead of Hochul and Polencarz giving them money that’s ours to cover the citizens of the city should cover their costs, and not you and I.
To me this is reasonable because it’s about 1.5% over the past 20 years. My city is routinely 3-5% so why should my state and county taxes go to help offset their cost?
Between 2006 and 2023, the city only raised property taxes three times. The long period of flat taxes and reliance on reserve funds eventually led to the current "fiscal reckoning," necessitating the larger increases seen in the 2025 and 2026 budget cycles. Is that true? I find it hard to believe any city in this state hasn't had a tax increase in 20 years.
why on earth does a city need 4 deputy mayors who make $148k each per year in addition to a mayor? Instead of raising budgets why not cut 3 or all 4 of the deputy mayors? That would save between $400-$500k per year. I’m so tired of hearing politicians talk about needing to raid taxes without also simultaneously cutting costs. The amount of tax money coming in is not the problem. The amount of spending is the problem. Buffalo could be given 100 trillion dollars cash and within 5 years they would still say they need more money.Of course he added a deputy mayor or two as well.
Yep, barely a raise in the last 20 years outside of 2025.Is that true? I find it hard to believe any city in this state hasn't had a tax increase in 20 years.
They should have a reserve fund but not 20 years worth of cash on had. I know it wasn’t that but they say you should have 2-3 months of cash on hand in a reserve fund. If not a control board comes in.If a government has " reserves" you are being over taxed.
To fix this problem across every state, county, village, only the money for direct public infrastructure, nut houses, police, water, sewer, power, etc., and some of that would be just over site/regulations, you could cut the budgets by 50-65%.
I in a way k ow one of the deputy mayors. It’s a joke. 4 is worse and others never had that many.why on earth does a city need 4 deputy mayors who make $148k each per year in addition to a mayor? Instead of raising budgets why not cut 3 or all 4 of the deputy mayors? That would save between $400-$500k per year.
