Funny I’ve been meaning to pull the boat up to Schroon, haven’t fished it in years. Before we had the camp we used to stay at Waconda campground on the river.
If you put into Champlain, Westport is a good ramp not generally busy and straight out the bay is great trolling. Port Henry has a great ramp but it can be busy but good Salmon fishing after ice off. This year was weird I was setting up at 90. -100 feet with the balls for lakers and stacker’s at 45-50 “ for Salmon and still nailing the lakers. Not one Salmon this year

Fishing for me this year has been so-so with all the rain we’ve had, and heat. Yes Westport is where I’d launch from. Actually took a ride up there without the boat to check it out a month ago. That seemed ideal. I’m actually kicking myself now for not keeping the boat out to go to Champlain in the next month as the water cools more. Oh well , next year is another year.
Not nearly the numbers , or potential sizes that come out of Champlain, but fishing is descent at Schroon at times anyways. Was nailing Lakers in 80 fow at 60 just trolling worms and shiners 2 months ago. There’s salmon in there but I have yet to land one

Funny , I was planning to go up to Champlain for one last fling Saturday morning and woke up at 4:30 am for the 2 hour ride and had a flat tire. Then I looked at the weather for the week and said maybe I’ll go Tuesday, (today) , skip work, and enjoy one last trip. Nope, me and entire family have the fucking flu. Can’t win

What a day. Fishing in a tee shirt at the end of October. Took a ride further east than normal and it paid off. Limited in about an hour and a half and got an extra passenger. Only a few more trips left in the season.

Well, a couple years ago I stocked one of our ponds with bull head.
Now they are thick as mud.
Not even fun fishing for them anymore.

To me it looks like a northern water snake due to the banding coloration and scales. It would make sense you found him right near water too.

I had every intention of going fishing and taking my son but I felt like shit all weekend. They were pounding fish by me all weekend as well. My nephew caught three Muskie and a walleye this weekend. I was sick on the couch and barely got anything done, no fishing for sure. I barely made it to Homedepot and back and got a few chores done around the house. I’m pissed because it was gorgeous

I finally got out today with my boy and we cleaned out the River by me. Wow was it a great day. Went out for about 2.5 hours and I caught 5 walleye, two keepers, but let the 15-16 “ go for the 24” one. I then caught another 5-6 smallmouth with 4 of them being 16-18”. My son did the same and we kept his large walleye about 22” but really fat. We caught two 15-16” small mouth back to back in five minutes. I lost count of how many fish we caught because we were catching them so fast at the end and we fished for only 2.5 hours. That was between the three of us and my nephew only caught two or three.

My oldest had a birthday party last Saturday that included a fishing trip. Not knowing how many worms 6 boys would go through, I bought 4 dozen. I don’t think we used 1/4 of that, so I took my boys fishing tonight. It’s a good thing they’re young enough they enjoy catching bluegill, but old enough to cast on their own (the oldest will do everything from bait to release, and sometimes he’ll help his brother with his), so I’m able to actually fish now.

Someday I’ll learn how to catch stuff (I don’t want to use words and catch bluegill, most of the time). It’s even more fun when you’re staring at a bass, run a lure right in front of its face, and it doesn’t even flinch.

I may have been frustrated, but the boys had fun, and were a few worms lighter.

Fish are biting so I think you’ll like the temps. Walleye by me on the River are strong.

Just got back. Thursday weather sucked. Cold and windy.....but still we went out.



Friday was warmer, still windy, but rain moved in for th afternoon. We cut it short. Still went out though.

Saturday was really beautiful in the morning. Quiet and calm. That lasted maybe 1-2 hours, wind picked up, boat volume picked up, and the lake was choppy again.



Our room was small, but nice. Had everything we needed. We had 3-4 Amish families in our property. They were our early and back late. Nice enough but I can tell you, if a fish made it in their boat......it wasn't going back in the lake.

Looking forward to more fishing this year....
