Makes complete sense to me, NY needs more money for the slushfund. People on welfare need more shit for free.
What does not make sense is the tax rate. A can of Zyn will be more than a can of chew. Way to promote a nicotine product which is likely safer than tobacco.
Are they going to tax stamp them like cigarettes? What stops the hadji marts (the ones that still illegally sell flavored vapes) from just getting cases from another state and pocketing the tax?

For non smokers, when you buy tobacco it has a tax on it, so say $10 when it is wrung up they tax the $10 for sales tax (your state and local sales tax amount).

The other issue I have is Nicotine pouches have only one warning; possible addiction. They have been shown to have medical benefits.
Tobacco has medical impacts. IF those taxes were applied toward uncovered medical treatment I may be more in favor. But this State can’t account for where our taxes go as it is and rarely do We get a voice.

I was surprised to lear that Nicotine actually has beneficial attributes...I did know that some insecticides utilize it, and it causes problems with the Bees (which I have an affinity for)...seems like a LOT of products over the years have been deliberately vilified, banned, or controlled under the Flag of Public Safety with its replacement a corporate product they make money on.
