I put a small /s indicating sarcasm, but it's easily missed. I do not trust the people of NYC to do anything but more of what they have been doing. Ingrained in many is a sense that appeasement can get a bully to stop bullying you. It's never worked.

The government has damn near unlimited power to tax, spend and fine the DC rioters to recover their losses. Private citizens are limited to the extent of their insurance and often not fully compensated. Then their insurance premiums will go up.
