On what grounds? Locking people up who have not committed any crime is BS. You want to give the government power to determine who is a "lunatic" and just start locking people who are "crazy" away? The potential for abuse there is huge. Ie. "Oh look, that spat guy over there supports gun rights and lives off the power grid. That guy is clearly crazy, lets lock him up, never know what he is going to do next." That's way too much power for the govt. to have.

No, I'm saying if you don't have enough evidence to lock them up then you don't have enough to take their guns.
And if you *do* have enough to lock them up, then WTF are you doing taking the guns and letting them walk free ?
If you think some guy is going to shoot up a parade, and you don't have enough proof to lock him up, then detail a dozen cops to follow him around 24/7 until you do have that evidence or you decide you were wrong.
"Hand over the guns we know about, then go back to whatever you were doing and we'll forget all about you" is just an insane way to deal with someone you suspect is about to commit mass murder.
